pro, elite, performance tuuk chassis

Recommended Posts

I cannot find any information on the difference between these three chassis, the pro, elite, and performance one up tuuk chassis that NBH puts on their skates.

If any body has any experience with any or all of them please let me know.

I have a pair of Bauer MEGA 30-50 that have the performance chassis and are oh-so-comfortable but the chassis is just not that great i feel.

The space where you put the wheel seems to be inconsistent, on some of the wheel spots the space is too large, and the wheels kinda float around in there, and when you tighten the axle more to compensate for the space, the wheel doesn't spin well because it pinches the bearing too much. I have to readjust my axles about twice a game because some will get out of whack and wont spin right or they get too loose.

I'm 19, so when i was growing up i got a new pair of cheap skates every year and didn't have to worry about my chassis because i got a new one every year. Now that my foot stopped growing and I have used these for a little bit longer (maybe 2 seasons worth), it seems they are just kinda crapping out. Is that typical of most chassis? Are they just not that strong? (I'm only about 145 lbs, so I don't think weight is an issue here)

That's kinda my little review of the performance class chassis, if anyone knows if the pro or elite are stronger/lighter/better... whatever the case may be... please let me know, because i do like how NBH's boots fit, but if the chassis can't get any better.. I'm going to have to try something else.

Also, going from the one up hi-lo setting (80-80-72-72) to a vanguard chassis(80-80-76-76), will i notice much of a difference while skating? I might just try a pair of missions for overall quality instead. Bauer's might be comfortable, but their mega series boot isn't terribly high quality. I plan to lay some serious cash down on a pair of skates that will last me a long time now that my feet are done growing. If they last me 10 years, that's cheaper in the long run is the way i see it.

Thanks for any help you have to offer!

I can't really comment on the relative quality of the NBH roller chassis having never skated on it, but if you like the boot, there's no reason why you can't put a better performing chassis on it. The Labeda Hummer and Mission Vanguard are both great chassis depending on what you're looking for, but neither one has that slop in the chassis that's annoying you and making you crank down the axle bolts to the point where the bearings are binding. Speaking of which, stay away from RBK/CCM skates if you're going to keep the stock chassis. The Tri-Dri they use is almost impossible to get tight without causing the bearings to stick.

If you really want a skate that's going to last you, you could go with something like this :

Converting some ice hockey skates may well be the way to go as Darshu suggested through the picture, particularly if you plan to lay some serious cash down. Find a boot you like the feel of then find a chassis to match, or of cource you could find an inline boot you like and change the chassis to something else that your more comfortable with if you don't feel like re-adjusting.

Thanks for the help, but I really want to know if the other tuuk chassis are better (the pro and elite), if those chassis are fine, then i can just leave the stock chassis on and save some money.

you know what i mean?

if the pro or elite tuuk chassis and the mission vanguard chassis are comparable on quality, why drop another 150 for a new chassis if i don't have to?

I guess you would get the benefit of a bit more top speed with the vanguard set-up thought, as the front wheels are bigger. I haven't ever really had a problem with speed though... I'm pretty quick. I guess even if i am fast though, it would just make me that much faster..... sorry, just thinking while typing...

anyone notice a speed difference on the vanguard vs the hi-lo?

Is that an ice hockey boot you have on those magnesium vanguards? and what kind of wheels are those? That is a sexy skate

$150 for a Vanguard? You can probably get a used one cheap. For instance, I'm selling my Aluminum Vanguard chassis for $40 shipped. Probably cost you another $15 to get them mounted at your LHS.

I hear you on not wanting to overspend for the chassis. From what I can tell looking at the different NBH skates in looks like the performance chassis might be a cheap stamped-steel piece where the others are extruded steel or aluminum. If you have problems with the performance chassis flexing and causing the bearings to bind, the higher-end chassis may not flex, but it could just be that there's not enough internal bracing in the design to keep it from flexing. I can strongly recommend the Vanguard and Hummer chassis -- they're both tanks.

If you're looking for a bang-for-the-buck build, absolutely buy that Aluminum Vanguard for $40. I only went with the Mag Vanguard because I got a killer deal on the skate boots and had room in my budget to go crazy.

Those skates I posted are a pair of pro-stock NBH Vapor XXXXs I picked up used. Wheels are Rink Rat Hornets, but I've since gone to Revision Variants -- I tore the Hornets up in about two weeks.

Thanks for the offer on the vanguard chassis, but I'm not quite ready to buy anything yet. I may end up getting a pair of missions after all anyway. Problem is LHS's don't exist near my school. I would have to go home (100 miles or so) to go to a LHS and try on some missions. last time i put a pair of missions on was about 10 years ago and i hated it, i have grown a lot since then and mission has changed their boot quite a bit, i might like it now, maybe as much as i like the bauer boots, i don't really know. (hardcore improper comma usage)

Thanks for the help guys, but i think at this point i just need to get into a store and try stuff on and maybe see what kind of info i can get out of the sales rep about the different tuuk chassis.

Thanks again!
