My hoof - for the fit gurus...

Recommended Posts

I am including a couple pics of my pontoons just to get a better idea of fit options for skates. I need to pic up a new pair for the summer and fall. I have been skating in 7k's for a while, but I have used them sparingly due to poor fit. The RBK's I have are a size 9D - I take 11 shoes. The width in the fore-foot is good, but the ankle is much too large unless I pump them several times (35 or 40), and they are too shallow - when I tie them up they are busting open at the hinge, and they kill the bridges of my feet - great skate, but uncomfortable as hell for me. About the best fit I had prior to this were 8090's, but have fun finding them anywhere now. Here's the glitch - I am a weekend warrior - 1 or 2 free ice sessions a week and one beer league game, but I'm 230lbs with busted ankles. What I need is something that will fit these puppies, stand up to the abuse I'll put into them, and not break the bank acocunt too badly. Any opinions?

now is the time for bargin buys...like most others will tell you; get to a shop and see what fits best in the outgoing model and wait for it to go on sale as the '09 gear rolls in...

good luck!

If the 8090 fit you properly, give the Supreme 70 or One*5 series (except the 75) a look. I believe the 70 and 95 have been said to be quite close to the 8090.

I'm in the same boat with the Vector pair I have, except the heel in the Vector is narrower and I can keep heel lock if I lace right. I am miserable in these skates and there has been nothing I've tried on that felt any better. I have pair of new Flexlites on order through my LHS for June delivery. Hopefully they'll be a good solution, but it's just a $20 loss if not. The top model is only $350 as well, so that might be worth a shot to at least try them on.

It's always a little tough to say just by looking at a picture, but I think you'd fit pretty well in a Graf 735/G35...

+1

worth a shot either way if you can get to a LHS that carries them

I have tried on the 735's and they weren't bad - general foot shape was nice, but a tad shallow. There are some in the area, but they are still almost $500 CAD.

I have tried the Flexlite 12's on, and although they fit well in general, the toebox was HUGE and they are fugly - I know, fit is more importatant, but I won't spend that much on something that looks like that.

I'll see if I can track down some 70's to try on.

Thanks guys.

If the 735s were close, but you need a little more depth, I would try a pair of XXXXs on... Also they are generally on sale ahead of the 60's arriving.

If the XXXX's don't have enough depth you should try on a pair of One95s....if you still need more depth go Graf 709s/ G70s

I can see the toebox being too big, it's massive in the XXXX despite the volume being on the small side. I can live with my toes having wiggle room if the heel and quarters lock in though. Have you taken a look at the new Flexlite 4.0 that's coming out? Nowhere near the older 12 and 18 lines in terms of looks.

Wow, those are some clean skates. Any idea what the running price on those are going to be?

Damn - those are pretty sharp, Rust - very interesting. They are on pre-order at Greatskate for $330 USD.

I went to the shops this afternoon - shelves are pretty empty. About the only thing I tried on that had a god fit were a pair of SE10's - they felt pretty good.

It is bigger than the toe box on the xxx's; but, hardly massive. I had to have mine stretched, and I could never wear a wider skate like the flexlites.

The width is fine, I could point my toes up without touching the top though. Foe being a lower volume skate, the toe box is very tall.
