HI-LO and Hummer users...

Recommended Posts

I have used mission Hi-Lo frames generators and now vanguards my whole life. I basically know nothing else in terms of how other frames feel. Now i'm looking to do an ice to roller conversion and wondering if anyone recommends the hummers over the hi-lo/vanguard frames? I like my vanguards but i feel better on the old hi-lo setup for some reason. What are your guys thoughts, try something new or what? Thanks in advance.

Sprungs ;)

I used the old style Hi-Lo's for years, then spent about a year on tri-di's now I'm on sprungs. The sprungs are easily the nicest feeling out of them all for me.

I've used the traditional hi-lo's and the hummer. I felt the difference in pitch and adjusted pretty quickly. I get the concept that bigger wheels straight across on the hummer offer advantages. I don't necessarily feel those advantages. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you are comfortable with the pitch of the hi-lo's, then there really isn't a real good reason to switch unless you want to just try something new. I just got sprungs and haven't tried them out too much yet but just wanted to try something different. Have to feed the addiction, you know.

I switched from a 2008 Mission Boss (vanguard) to a 2009 Tour Cobalt Q (Hummer) recently and there are definetly a few quick things I noticed when I switched. On the Hummers at first I almost felt like I was going to fall backwards, but I got used to it quickly. The added surface area of having the 4 80mm wheels is definetly different. I find that stopping is quicker and more efficient, but quick turns suffer a bit.

Good luck choosing :-D

I went to Humm'r from the hi-lo a while back.

Took a bit to get used to, I felt like the front wheel on the Humm'r would drag occasionally when I would go to lift my skate during a turn or sprint...the grip was very noticeably better though. I believe wheels last longer with the Humm'r since the stopping pressure is even distributed.

I feel since i went to the vanguard on my boss skates that turning has suffered. I dont know if its because im out of shape somewhat but i also felt faster on my traditional hi-lo. I def like the pitch of hi-lo frames as I like to be more on my toes as opposed to my heels. decisions decisions lol. How is the pitch of the sprungs??

Maybe I'm not that great of a skater but when I switched over to my one90s from my Wicked Ones (both with the same frame), the one90s felt a bit higher in the heel but it only took me maybe 2 or 3 skates to adjust.

Skated on the older Hi Lo.... 80 72 my whole career and was in need of new skates.... I bought some Tours with the Hummer and could not get used to them to save my life..... felt like you were falling back all the time and tight turns were not all that great.... Skated on them for three sessions and never once felt more comfortable

I did like the speed of the all 80s but felt like you could not really manuever in the corners or for that mater turn all that quickly..

Am going to be trying out the Vanguard set-up. I have a newer vanguard that is mounted on older Bauers... just have not had a chance to skate on them yet
