Observation on holder change

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd mention this; I don't know if it's happened to other people also. I changed the holders on my graf skates from cobra to tuuk lightspeed 2's, and the balance point seemed very far back; further back than I recalled tuuk's ever being. I then realized that the grafs weren't really fitting me very well anyway, so I just bit the bullet and got some vapor 60's, and the balance point on them is further forward - feels very neutral and much better than the grafs with the same holders. I doubt that it has to do with the sharpening - only one sharpening. I don't know if its some variation among the manufacturing or what, or just how they feel on different skates. Although, the holders on the grafs were one size up from what I've got on the vapors, and maybe that has something to do with it.

You've changed the pivot point slightly when you went one size down with the holder. That's probably why you're feeling more back on your heels. You'll either have to give yourself time to adjust or maybe have the blade contoured to a more forward profile to get the same feel as you have on a pair of Vapors. If the Grafs aren't fitting well anyway you may as well sell them privately and get something back on them. You shouldn't have any problem getting a buyer for a pair of slightly used Grafs. Let the buyer know about the one size smaller holder though so he can either contour them or go back to the size the holder it should have.
