Consistency of Warrior Lies

Recommended Posts

I use a Warrior Draper curve, lie 4, which I think is equivalent to a "real" lie of somewhere between 5 and 5.5. I'm thinking of changing curves, so I was in a store and decided to compare a Draper lie 4 against a Fedorov lie 4. I expected their lies to be pretty close to identical, since they were both Warrior lie 4. However, they were not even close. The Fedorov seemed to be more like a "real" lie 4.5 to 5. To make sure I wasn't crazy and the Draper wasn't mislabeled, I then pulled out a P92 Naslund (lie 6) stick and compared all three sticks together - and sure enough the Draper fell right in the middle between the Naslund and the Fedorov. I was pretty surprised, so I did the comparison again in a second store a few days ago and got the same result.

Does anybody have an explanation for why two sticks from the same manufacturer that are labeled with the same lie are so different? The difference was so big that it seems unlikely that it would be explained solely by differences in the amount of rocker between the two curves, but maybe it really is as simple as that? Whatever the reason, it certainly makes it difficult to know exactly what you are getting when you buy a Warrior stick.

You think thats bad, junior sticks almost never correspond to the curve chart lies so I gotta seem to in person or have their pictures taken with the blade laid on its side. :D

Warrior is horrible about the consistency of their lies. I have seen many mismarked Warrior blades (i.e. same curve and same marked lie with very different lies).

I posted a similar topic a little while ago; I had the exact same experience. I was in a shop and compared one warrier 4 to another warrior 4 and they were way different. And, on top of that, the warrier lie numbers aren't really consistent with what most other stick mfg.s seem to use. I think a warrior lie 5 is really what other companies would label a 6, for example.

The bigger the rocker, the more inaccurate the warrior lie number. They measure with the heel to middle of the blade flat on the floor/ice instead of the middle of the blade flat on the floor/ice with the toe and heel equally in the air. Therefore, the bigger the rocker, the more inaccurate it will be. The Draper has a bigger rocker than the Fedorov, so it is farther from the marked lie then the Fedorov.

while we're on the topic of warrior lies, does anyone know what the actual lie is for the Weight curve? I guess its the Vanek curve now actually..

What would the Federov lie really be; I think it's listed as 4 but I'm guessing it's really a 5.

The one I had a couple years ago was probably a hair under 5
