I was at the game where they retired "Boom Boom"'s jersey and it was amazing. I can definitely see how that it can be compared to a religion. I haven't been to "church" in a while. I think I may have to go soon.

There's nothing the researcher talks about that is unique or special to hockey. Lots of other sports raise jerseys to the rafters, for instance. Surfing, which they mention, on the other hand... that is the sport I associate most with spirituality and near religious experience.

That shot of the red carpet on the ice is great in the context of the article though. It looks like the red-cross-on-white the Templar knights would wear. I wonder how intentional that was.
