Graf Skates

Recommended Posts

You'll need to wear them for at least six to eight sessions before they begin to feel just right. The leather needs to be worked in a bit and start flexing with your skating movements. It's not uncommon for any new pair of skates regardless of what brand to feel a bit stiff when you first wear them so be patient, a couple of weeks from now they'll feel one heck of a lot better on the ice and they get better the longer you use them.

It took some time to break in my Graf 709s. I started with a pair of dress socks, the thinnest I had. They were pro stocks from the Av's sale, so I didn't have the benefit of an LHS fitting expert.

Back in the day, someone told my parents to break in skates with wet socks. I remember wetting socks, tying up the skates tight, and shooting hoops in the driveway with skateguards on to break them in. Looking back it's a wonder I didn't turn an ankle.

Mine are pretty stiff but after about 3 or 4 games they're pretty decent. I did have them baked also, and hit a fair amount of public skates to get them comfy. Can't be happier with a pair of skates than I am with my G3's. They're some Mr. Sloppy Seconds pro returns.

I have the 735's wide, stock and couldn't be happier with them. Like I posted earlier they toke about eight to ten games to wear in nicely. Had them late last summer. Still look almost brand new after one full season in my mens league. I find them a tad on the shallow side. Went into Dukes in Etobicoke last week and just fitted a pair of G5's to check out the difference in depth. I believe I found my next skate. I love the extra depth and find the G series lighter as well. My only reservation is that the great guys at Dukes said they may have sacrificed a little of the durability to get the extra lightness but then again they'll probably still outlast most of the performance skates on the market anyways. Told him I'd definitely be back in the future to look into these. Picked up some new elbow pads while I was there because their prices are usually some of the best in the GTA.
