Farrell Shoulder Pads - Toronto

Recommended Posts

Battletech88, thank you for your search. I'll call the Burlington store this week and take a drive down as the Source for Sports in the GTA do not sell them anymore. You are right, $179 plus gst and pst is very expensive. Did they have the white ones as they are cheaper. I know that you can order them online, but with duty and shipping it will add up. Right now I am wearing the RBK 4K's and find them bulky.

the employee said that they can get both colours but some are complaining the white ones are turning yellow from the sweat.

The white ones do turn yellow from sweat.....mine have. But if you clean/disinfect them regularly, they may look dirty, but will still essentially be clean.

Plus, this is hockey.......are people really concerned about the aesthetic appearance of protective equipment worn under uniforms?

BTW, I really like mine. Amazing mobility, very low profile, and perfect level of protection for beer league.

The newer RBK 10K pads are very light, very mobile, and offer decent protection. I looked at some older Jofa stuff but could not find them in the right size no matter how hard I looked and scoured eBay too. I nosed around about the Farrell pads and most said they were okay or so-so. Thus I felt that since RBK bought Jofa and continues to blend their designs into the RBK product lineup it was a better choice. I'd urge anyone looking for a lightweight but protective shoulder pad setup to check out the 10K if possible. Just my .02 on this...

one of the skinnier guys on my team has the new 10k shoulders and shins and they look HUGE on him. seriously, after he puts his jersey on he looks like a football player...

I still can't find these in Toronto. Help!

The only serious shop here in Texas has been promising me these would be in next week for about 3 months now.

lol, I'm pretty sure I know which shop you're talking about. They've been telling me their new stock "should be here next weekend" for a few months now. It's pretty frustrating because I really need new pants but every time I go in and ask if the new stuff has come in they always respond with "oh dude, bro, man, the truck was supposed to be here yesterday but never showed up, it'll be here by next week though, dude, bro". Oh well, beggars can't be choosers. This is what we get for living in TX...

I found the 10K pads online shipped for about $120 total. There is a Jofa 9500 (I think that's what it was... can't recall for sure) shoulder pad set on eBay also that seems to be in nice shape. But I really do like the RBK and the price isn't that bad.

i can see they have great mobility with the block design, but does the blocks allow cool air to circulate also. have you been hit with the puck and how does it feel with the blocks?

Yeah, actually the first game i had them out i got hit 4 or 5 times blocking shots. There surprisingly great and seem to provide better protection then my pro tacks or my original 8k shoulder pads did. A major feature of them is the airflow, each block has a hole in the middle and there made of a very breathable material. I always had problems with air flow because we were very heavy thick jerseys with no perforation however the farrells helped a great deal. They protect a lot more then you think, especially on pucks and what not. People get the impression they dont because of how light they are, im never going back to traditional shoulder pads. Also i look tiny on the ice which can be a good thing i guess and they tear away during a fight so your opponent cant get a grab on you.

Do the 10k pads have good back protection? Kidneys and spine

Personally they're fine. They fit right up and don't leave any gaps to the pants uppers and offer plenty of protection.

Well, I finally got my Farrell shoulder pads and not in Toronto. The source for sports in Burlington was asking $209 for the black ones. Way too expensive. Two weeks ago, I was in Manhattan, NY and went to West Side Stick and Puck and got the white ones for $125 US. These things are excellent, very good mobility. However, I am not sure how durable they are.

Mine are holding up just fine to quite a bit of abuse.

I know that some people take off the shoulder caps as they are detachable with the snaps and velcro. If you do that, how do you find it? I play in a beer league and am thinking of taking them off. However, I figure that they are there for a reason.

I've used them for the past 2 years and have had nothing but great results. They hold up perfectly fine, sure they may turn a bit discolored due to sweat, but honestly is that a big deal? Just wash them. They are the best shoulder i've worn, won't wear anything else.

I've been playing w/o shoulder caps on my black verison Farrells, and have had zero issues. I've "bumped" a few ppl at full speed and have yet to feel any stingers in the shoulder region. I would put them back on if there was any chance of real hitting, but for beer league play these shoulder pads are the best. Super light, great airflow, and good protection.
