New Lission LT's rubbing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Had my first training session with my new mission LT's tonight.

They were ok for the first 20 minutes (a bit stiff) but then i started to notice rubbing on both sides of my ankles.

Is this normal? A previous review says it is, but I wanted to gauge other opinions

I know they will take some breaking in..im just not sure? I havent bought new skates for 7 years due to a gap in playing, and my last missions are the old control series!

cheers,

Rich

There are a couple threads about Mission skates and ankle issues with the past couple of years skates starting with the Wicked line....You could do a search and try and find them....I had a little rubbing issue and just dont lace the top lace hole and it solved the problem for me....But you also have to remeber new skates are going to rub and hurt until they are good and broke in no matter what.....

Thanks mate

I guess il have to give it 5/6 training sessions to break them in first, then see what happens

There's a underground tube strike here in London today, so the extra long walk with sore feet didnt help!

Well they threaten a lot - but it doesnt normally happen! Guess we will have to take them more seriously now!

There isnt anywhere around here to bake them which is a shame - it would involve a 5/6 hour drive.

I read somewhere that you dont need to get them baked, and that they will break in on their own.

You dont need to but it helps a lot. You can use your own oven and modify the instructions a bit.

Hmm ok does anyone have a tried and tested method - i have this picture of me kneeling down looking at my pancake missions!

Any experience with temperatures, timing etc? Or a guide?

I saw an old post where people were not keen on the idea but it seems like a few people have tried it?...

I have a 2 pairs of Boss' (08 model) and I have found that they don't really slip so much as they just kill my outside ankle bones on my right skate. I've baked it twice already and it still kills. The left skate feels great already after 2 skates.

One thing I don't get is that the mission skates a lot of times had those indy foam ankle pads that made it super comfy on those ankle bones. On this line of skates(08) however, the foam pads in the ankles don't even line up with those bones. I think the pads may be more to keep your heel locked down than anything else.

It does look like they went back to the indy foam ankles for the 09 line though.

I baked my Vapor XXV's myself with a regular oven. I preheated to 175, shut the oven off, and threw them in for 7 minutes. I checked them every 2-3 minutes though, to make sure they weren't burning/getting too flimsy.

I took the wheels off of mine when I did. It was pretty simple. When they were good and soft I put them on and just stood in kind of a skating position for 20 minutes or so. I've heard other people recommend sitting down instead, but your foot shape is totally different when your sitting as opposed to standing, so I opted to stand.

Just make sure you don't have your skates too close to the heating element in your oven. Keep them right on the middle shelf.

If you have a convection oven, I would use that instead. I've been told the skate ovens at LHS are just downsized convection ovens. But like I said, I baked mine in a regular oven and it worked great. I got a much better fit afterwards.

If you do bake them yourself, be careful lacing! Pull the laces out and away from the boot, not up towards you. The boot is soft and weak after baking, you could easily tear an eyelet if you're not careful!

I've got the same feeling in the recent Mission skates. The boots flat out hurt. The pads do a great job locking the foot down, but fail at making the boot comfortable. I bought some memory foam and have placed it in the boot where it's been killing me. It's done a pretty good job so far.

Really want to do this but soo scared of wasting the money i spent on them...perhaps to be safe i will do it for 5 mins at 150 and see if it makes a difference
