Broke an OctoGun can you put a blade in?

Recommended Posts

that is an amazing question... i think you might need to ask the people at you r lhs about that one

that is an amazing response! way to pad you post count.

Anyways to the original question, no you cannot. There are no blades with hossels that have 8 sides. Even if a blade would fit in shaft it wouldn't work well because all the sides aren't in contact with the shaft. It would create a lot of weak/pressure points and would eventually break.

you could also do what some people did with the S17 and flip it over and put a blade in on the other side. Not sure how comfortable it would be to hold on to though

If you want to go to the effort of shaping the hosel of a replacement blade into the shape of the bottom of the shaft; I dare say that it can be done. I've belt sanded standard to tapered with seemingly no effect on durability so I guess you could do this if you have the time and patience.

If you were hoping for a correctly shaped replacement blade, you're s**t out of luck. I theorise one of the reasons some of the companies are using such taper technology now is to prevent the shaft from being easily re-used.

I think you mean the tenon.

Sorry if its been discussed before, but is the 8 sided concept simply a way to keep players from buying a replacement blade and sticking it in the shaft, essentially pushing them to purchase a new stick?

From what I understand, the 8 sided part of the shaft improves balance, cuts down weight, and has something to do with the kickpoint and how it flexes(?) I'm not positive though, someone feel free to correct me.

Just turn the stick upside down. Alot of lacrosse sticks have 8 sided shafts.

Wow, I never really thought about it that way, I figured it was like a new design to help with shooting and whatnot, but you do make a good point!

i agree with that too. the s17 is the same idea. if you flip it around it doesn't really response the same because it tapers in the other direction. RBK's .sticks are like that now too.. like can you put a blade in the 9k0? or the 8.0.8.

the only way i can see a blade working in your broken octogun is if they make a blade with an eight sided hosel....

the 9k0 you can definitely put a blade in it as long as it breaks in the right area...8.0.8 i'm not sure since they added an extra hole

You just flip it. Below the holes on the 9k0 its not hollow barely, theres a slight section in the shape of a rectangular prism up to one of the holes, the holes end and then its normal, your going to need to flip it. Its the same base theory with the 8.0.8.

oh ye? i figured it was just a short rectangular area there...never broke at the fuse point for me

be interesting though playing with a flipped o stick

Its next to unusable. Sure you could use it, but why? Its awful, theres no point at all, The kick is really off and its really stiff up by your top hand where the holes are.

On a side note, i broke a sherwood eclipse and the taper was tiny so i shaved down the tenon on my wooden blade super super small and it wasn't a good fit so i coated it in epoxy and quickly puit it in the shaft. You could sand down a blade real small and then epoxy it into the shaft probably, however good luck ever getting it out again.
