I owned a pair of RBK 8k and I liked them fine.

Good:

Relatively stiff, very comfortable boot that held up well.

The RR Hornets it comes with a nice wheels, the bearings were pretty decent as well.

Bad:

Lace lock eyelets are flimsy

The ankle pump is kind of a gimmick, they can get damaged or blow out

Axle bolts are pretty soft metal and the hex holes are easy to round if you're not careful

Tri-Di chassis is flimsy and easy to overtighten ( but if you've already got one and you're OK with it, there aren't any surprises here )

====

I'd take a pair of the Vector V08s over the 8k though if you can get both for the same price. I think the pump is a gimmick and I like the Vector boot graphics better, personally.

Reebok and CCM both fit differently and since they are both rather similar in all honesty go with what fits best, you'll prefer it much more in the long term.

I agree with darshu about the pump, if you can't get a good heel lock in the Reeboks, the pump doesn't do a huge amount to hold your foot in place, it tends to only make it feel more snug round the ankle.

Thanks for the responses-

I live in an area that LHS don't exist or are sparse so I cant try anything on.

One of the reasons I like the Rbk's is the lace lock- CCM's no longer have them.

I am concerned about comfort and fit out of box without to much baking or breaking in.

They are pretty much the same price- any other skates you recommend in the $300 range?

Thanks

Hilz

missions before they become extinct

Mission inline is still going so it's not really going to become extinct, at the very least not anytime soon. You can find the mission syndicate (08 models) at awesome prices now.

you could always look into the older model vectors, you can find them at good prices as they'll be on close out. They also have the skate lock on them :) Hockey Monkey has the 10's for $300 although no size 9's or 10's in either, if they have your size I'd say they'd be a good buy, you also get a free bag with them.

Good luck finding a skate that works for you

I really like the ankle lock that the rbk skates has. I have the 4k and 5k '08 models. The tri-di chasis is a pain because you have 3 different size wheels. But they are the most comfortable skates I've ever had. The best thing would be to get the rbk boot and get a different chasis put on.

If you have an idea of what fits you, go with that. Outside of fit and the lacelock, they're pretty similiar skates, as far as materials.

Since you have to buy online anyway, try looking around at other stores. You can sometimes find deals at smaller online stores that aren't the ones you typically look to. I just bought 08 vector 8.0s for 220, with no shipping, because it was the only place I could find that still had these, and I really wanted the lacelock.

If you don't like the microbearings, you can buy floating spacers. They are made to fit 608 wheels (standard hubs), but they work with the axle size for mini bearings. I had them on pf10s for a long time.
