large hockey shops in Indiana/Michigan

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for some odd equipment and can't find a hockey shop that has it all. Is there any large shops that carry some of the smaller companies products in MI/IN?

what sticks are you trying to locate? i know the Peranis nearest me in Taylor has some of the 10k's and a few of the lower end models of it, and mostly older Tps/ Sherwoods.

I'm looking for the RBK SH8K SICKICK II, TPS Response R8 and sher-wood RM19 in OPS or shaft. I'm also looking for Graf G500 Sr. Shin Guards 15", Easton Synergy ST10 Sr. Hockey Girdle, Bauer Supreme One95 Sr. Adaptable Core, Nike Bauer Vapor XXXX Sr. Adaptable Core Pad, and Farrell gloves and chest.

I tried their main facility and they didn't have much. I'll try calling the Taylor store tomorrow.

I work at Hockey Services in Kalamazoo, Michigan (southwest Michigan). We have all sorts of stuff and are a fairly large store with a website as well. www.hockeyservices.com is the site. You can always drop me a PM if you want me to check on something for you too. Exactly what were you looking for?

Sorry guess i should have read better. We do have some of the stuff you are looking for and if we don't have something in stock we can always order it in for you.

im pretty sure they have the reebok 8k stick, not sure on the other 2 sticks and protective gear. have you tried checking out hockeyworld.com?

They only had one Farrell product, nothing else. I haven't been impressed with Peranis.

Not a big store (pretty small actually) but check out Perfect Edge in Howell, MI - they carry or can get some of the stuff you mentioned (farrells, etc) and don't usually carry junk like Peranis.

You might also take a trip across the border to Brian's in Windsor - call first.

Perani's to me has never been a great experience - invariably I almost never end up buying anything there - bins of seven year old, dusty, overpriced, equipment does not make it my favorite spot. They are ok for sticks, know jack about fitting skates and have to much paraphenalia.

Thats sorta funny! I just stop there today, lots of products packed into a small store. And the owner was great and informative.

That shop used to try to talk so much shit about my store (they couldn't touch me) it wasn't even funny - could never understand how they promoted themselves as "Skate Sharpening Experts" yet at the same time say they had the most t'blades in stock.

Hacks.

So what is your store?

I no longer work in MI.

The only store that I would recommend in MI that is MSH-friendly is Get An Edge Pro Shop in Orchard Lake, MI.

I agree. Get an edge is very good - only ones that do FBV sharpenings and they actually have a decent little amount of product considering they are an in-rink pro shop.

And yes JR, I admit Perfect Edge hooked me up with a few (uhmmmm*****cough*Tblades*cough****) back in the day ...ok, I admit it...I was a fan for a bit.

But I will have to say, Perfect Edge has a few decent people there and a few question marks. But to find shops that have up to date stuff and not low end junk nowadays is hard. At least they are catering to the mid- to - higher end of the equipment scale. I have never purchased skates there but outside of Brian's in Windsor - they seem to take the most time to get fittings correct.

Personally, I fit my kids myself now (I have done it so many damn times and learned alot from JR) and I find a decent skate brand & model for them. If it fits my price range, I buy it and take to my skate Nazi guy who bitches for a bit about how Bauer (or whatever skate brand I bring) should have done this or that and he then does a fitting to see if I made the right choice ( I have to be careful because he will often say "I cannot work with this" or "why did you buy this..it is not right for your kid" and give it back to me refusing to even sharpen it....lol.. but you cannot screw with the skate Nazi as he knows his stuff and I must go along for fear of being cut off should I question him too much). He looks more closely at the adjustments that will have to be made (i.e. shims, moving the holder, punch outs, pitch, profile, etc.) and he does his thing and I am done and I know they are right. I have tried to get this same thing done with other skate experts closer to home (who are nicer and cater to my know it all ego) and I invariably have to get it redone by my skate Nazi - so I now just go to him and take my abuse...but I get the last laugh as I walk out with my perfectly profiled blades shining and ready for a new season. I once started to ask him about "T-Blad.." and he said "get out..." before I could finish. I liked that.

No, I can't depend on the folks at places like Peranis to give me anything that was actually right for my kid as they seem to just have inexperienced kids fitting skates there and when you ask them what skate would be a good fit, they sort of look at you like..."I thought you would tell me...and I could just go get the box for you...". They don't do themselves any favors by having that super clearance summer sale and selling you whatever you want even if it is not right for you - just to get rid of some dusty piece of gear because it has been in their inventory for five years.

JR leaving the market left a big hole as far as decent talent to help with skates IMO. (will that plug get me a St. Louis jersey half off JR?).

Try the Peranis in Windsor, it's only about 15mins away from the tunnel, just was there yesterday to buy skates. They had a ton of stock of older sticks/skates... they still had Vapor XXX skates left
