I don't think he's talking about spacers that help hold the bearing apart, rather than a peice that goes round the outside of the bearing so that it becomes the size of a 608 bearing. I've seen them a couple of times before but there not very common.

From the first link, inlinewarehouse, when I used google to search "labeda grippers".

For play on smooth concrete or wood floors:

170 lbs below = Soft 76A

Over 170 lbs = Medium 80A

I use to play on wood all the time, the best wheel I found for wood was the labeda millennium.
