XXXX wood blade?

Recommended Posts

http://www.hockeygiant.com/nbhvxxxxwdbldsr.html

has anyone tried it?

sounds very tempting to me - after a year of good use a blade on my XXXX OPS has finally cracked, so combined with the fact that I actually wanted to try a different curve I though of buying a wooden blade (the feel of these is still much better to me personally then even for high end sticks like XXXX) & inserting it into the cut down stick.

with that a couple of additional questions:

  • would a tapared blade like this fit into a cut down OPS no problem?
  • since I've never done it before how much/where should I be cutting? it'd be really nice to keep the overall lenght for the 2 piece about the same as the original one piece - is it even possible?

Thanks!

The xxxx shaft is tapered so I don't think you would have a problem getting a tapered blade into your broken OPS xxxx, and you might loose a little height when you cut the shaft down but it shouldn't be a ton (maybe an inch at the most). Your best bet though is to just call hockey giant or monkey and ask the guys there about the tapered fit question cause they would definitely know best.

I had a vapor xxxx shaft (not from a broken ops) and two vapor xxxx wood blades and I had to sand them down to get them to fit in the shaft and the first one felt like a wet noodle after using it for a period then it cracked soon after. I put the 2nd blade in and it broke after 8 shots so I wouldn't recommend them. I'd stick with a composite blade but it depends on your personal preference.

If you're looking for a tapered wood blade to put in a cut down ops i would suggest the Sherwood 950 blade. I actually prefer this blade to the xxxx, plus it has a little bit longer hosel then alot of tapered blades that will help keep the length you're looking for.
