New Stick Dilema

Recommended Posts

Here's the story: 3 years ago I picked up 2 CCM Vector 40 wooden sticks, 1 recchi curve and the other a lecavalier. I didn't like the lecavalier and really liked the recchi, so I used the recchi until it broke 2 years ago. Because I had no choice at the time, I used the lecavalier and got to lazy to pick up a new stick. Tonight the lecavalier I have been using for 2 years finally broke and now I have no choice but to get a new stick this weekend. Because I used the lecavalier curve for so long, I think i'm used to it.

1.Do I get a stick with a curve similar to the lecavalier I had been using for so long or do I get a curve similar to the recchi curve that I had fallen in love with back in the day?

2.I'm going to be moving to a OPS, any suggestions on what stick to get as my first OPS? I don't want to break the bank and I want something with more flex, something around a 75.

Yeah, I was in the same boat a number of years ago. I used a Yzerman learning to shoot, switched to a lidstom that just wouldn't die for a few seasons straight and I got used to it. I picked up a Recchi (Tavares now) a few months ago and my shot improved worlds over after about 3 hours with it.

What did you like about the Recchi/Tavares that helped your shot so much?

I dont really do well "adjusting" to some curves no matter how long I play with them - I guess I'm better at letting my technique pick my pattern for me instead of adjusting my technique to fit a pattern, this summer I've had quite a few of the stranger curves I've tried out of curiosity and the best options I've used still are the Recchi/Iginla followed by the Bauer P12 or P15.

It fits my shot style, fast snappers and wrist shots that dont pull too far up or to either side. Based on the way I shoot a heel curve sends the puck off target too much, a toe curve doesn't get much power unless I have time to really roll the puck with a good follow through, though my backhand with a P10 is disgustingly faster than with the mid curves. In the end the mid curve fits me best; a closed or neutral face angle keeps my shot from catching the rafters instead of the top corners.

At least thats what's what I decided based on trial and error.

So, i've decided to go with a curve similar to the recchi curve. I bought a low lever bauer, the vapor XII, with the lindros (P88) curve. I'll get a chance to try it out tonight. Hopefully I still like this curve and the switch to the composite won't take too long to get used to.
