Best dryland stickhandling training

Recommended Posts

At work I have an industrial tile floor and I keep a stick there.

I take 5-10 minute breaks a few times a day to stickhandle... Kinda like a cigarette break that does not kill my body

Anyway, been using a golf ball, swedish ball, and a roller ball, but find that none of them really come all that close to the weight or feel of an ice puck.

Any suggestions?

I've put Teflon on the bottom of a puck and had some success with that but you still do not get a good enough glide to mimic ice.....

thanks so much,

See if you want to spend $ on Tape-2-Tape. http://tape-2-tape.com

I do resell it in Europe (only), so hopefully no one here takes this a sales pitch. I also use it myself and truly find it VERY beneficial.

PS: For mods: feel free to remove the post if anything

I've tried many ways also, baseballs, rollerballs, tennis balls etc and my favorite is the Swedish ball due to the fact listed above. It develops soft yet quick hands due to the way it bounces off the blade. I'd stick with the Swedish ball

I picked up a smart ball at my local shop for like $5 and it has served its purpose. I would not use them on carpet though, or really anything training wise because your grip tape will snag it like crazy.

i slide a PVC pipe about 6 inches in length over the shaft of my stick for the bottom hand and then just hold the stick with my top hand. get a golf ball (might invest in a swedish ball) and practice stick handling.

to stop the carpet snag problem i tape sideways across my blade front and back so the bottom of the blade stays bare.

hope that helps.

this is a great drill for me personally while watching tv (hockey game). keep your head up and just practice away :D
