Post-Game Drinking

Recommended Posts

Ever got your bell rung, but went to the pub after the game anyway?

Turns out you may have been impulsively trying to protect your brain...

Arch Surg. 2009;144(9):865-871.

Key point:"Additional research is warranted to investigate the potential therapeutic implications of this association" between blood-alcohol and head injuries.

We must all do our best to facilitate this ongoing research. Play reckless, drink up, and visit your local triage to be measured on the Glasgow Coma Scale!

"Additional research is warranted to investigate the potential therapeutic implications of this association." I know a lot of guys ready to help with research in the field, as they say.

I've been recovering from a pretty severe concussion so I've been drinking while the other guys skate, does that count?

I remember reading an article based on this study a bit ago, it mentions that around half of the injuries observed were directly caused by the drunkenness.

This one, troy?

This article goes on to talk about animal trials (lucky monkeys...), and unfortunately concludes that, "These beneficial effects are apparently lost at higher doses."

Sadly, the key appears to be moderation: too much, and you risk compounding complications.

So a couple of pints of Guinness and a dram before bed will do you a world of good, but the rule is, 'Only benders go on benders.'

Oh man, that's a great find LawGoalie! This one will get some major airtime with my hockey buddies....all in the name of research of course!

Keep spreading the gospel... :)
