Southern California: Good shops for getting skates fitted?

Recommended Posts

I've never been actually fitted for skates, just handed boxes and left to make a decision. I'd like to have somebody work with me to find something that really fits me right. Does anybody here have any suggestions?

I don't really want to go to hockey monkey or giant, because that's going to end up being some kid handing me box and walking away to help another customer. What I really want is someone experienced who's going to take their time and work with me to find a skate that fis properly.

One exit apart? Not quite. Regardless, neither of those "super stores" have the best customer service. Their employees are nice, but dont have a deep knowledge of the proper way to fit skates.

I'd recommend either the store at Toyota Sports Centre or the pro shop at the rink in Valencia.

Another vote for the Toyota Sports Center.

Edit: also want to add that the staff there was very professional. I had shims added to my holder and they did a great job with that as well.

Also a vote for the pro shop inside Toyota Sports Center, the salesman went above and beyond the call of duty when I got fitted for skates there a couple months back. The skates I was in previously gave me horrible lace bite, turns out it was because I was fitted wrong when I got my skates at one of the big volume stores already mentioned. He worked with me on getting the correct size and broke down all the different fits/features of each skate that was a candidate, eventually came out with some One90's that I love.

Can you get to San Diego? Jon Register at the San Diego Ice Arena is fantastic. He may not have exactly what you're looking for if you just pop in, so call him before and make sure. If he doesn't have it, he can certainly get it in a hurry.

When you go to TSC, ask for the Kings discount, they should give you 10% off or if you are bold ask them to match HG. If you are nice to them they will do it.

I agree about Charlie at TSC, but if you ever venture towards Anaheim, James or Sandy should be able to help you down at Ultimate Skate and Hockey at Anaheim Ice. Both are very knowledgable.
