New Skate

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for a new skate. I've worn the Bauer Supreme 50 since 2006. It now fits pretty well. I have grey superfeet tha made a huge difference. I replaced a Bauer supreme 100 classic that I had been using for river skating etc. Growing up I generally had hand me down skates that did hurt my feet, so I was happy the superfeet helped so much. I've mostly worn bauer skates up till now.

Now i'm playing men's beer league hockey twice a week. I play in the 'A' division but I'd say its not that good since I live in USA not Canada anymore. However, I was thinking of getting something higher end that would last me awhile. Sadly, my local hockey store only has 2 lower end skates in 8.5D that I am wearing in the supreme 50, so nothing that fits.

I'd rather get 'last years' top end model and pay $400 than pay $600+ for this years.

I am looking on the internet now. Does anyone know or can point me to a good resource on how newer skates fit? Or how about older skates.

I see ebay has some 8.5Ds in supreme one 95 or 8090.

Any advice would help.

Thanks

Just because you're an 8.5D in the Supremes, that doesn't mean you're going to be in an 8.5D in another skate. Your size will likely change if you jump to a different manufactuer or even into another Bauer line (Vapor, Flexlite)...assuming, of course, that you were sized properly into the Supremes in the first place.

Throw your feet onto a couple different scales and see where you would wind-up in a pair of Easton, CCM, Reebok, etc...

So are you saying I would expect the 50's to fit the same as the 95's? If so that would be great.

The main reason I'm concerned is because the tendon guard on one of my skates is starting to tear. It happened to another guy I play with also.

I'd rather have another pair of skates ahead of time.

Not necessarily. Probably, yes, but not always. Like I fit into one95s 11d perfectly, but the only other skate that feels comfortable is a 11.5EE 9k. I can't wear x60s at all. Not knowing how far you are away from a real shop doesn't help. If you end up being at one pretty much try on everything, than pick, regardless of brand name.

Oh I have a local hockey store they just don't have anything in stock or I'd buy it :P

They did have X:60s in stock and I tried them but they didn't feel that great. The toe felt a bit short, but when i tried on the 9, the toe felt way too long (no touch!). I don't know how much the heel will break in... the 8.5D might be good if it gives a bit more length.
