The Mafia Line 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2009 I'm taking a buddy who's never played ice hockey to his first open hockey. He's real good at aggressive inline and he's not a bad skater. We're gonna go to a sports authority and get him a low end skate to start and I'll do the fitting. All I need to know is, do low end skates fit like high end skates. Say my buddy has a foot that would fit a ONE95 boot, would a ONE35 fit the same way? Or like an X60 to an X20. You get the drift. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
flyers10 57 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 I'm pretty sure the fit of a high end will be different than that of a low end model. If he is planning on getting into ice hockey on a regular basis and is already a decent skater at inline I'd suggest he go to a LHS and find a better skate than what Sports Authority has. Maybe a One75 or a Vapor that has been discounted. This way he won't feel he has to upgrade his skates in a few months. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

He was actually getting new skates, not me and he tried on a pair of X50 as he did not want to pay 700$ plus taxes for the X60. He actually liked the fit of the X50 very much but the guy at our LHS convinced him to try the X60 just for the hell of it as he was telling him what the main differences were between both skates and my friend eventually bit the bullet and bought the X60 instead as he could definitly feel the difference in both skates and the X50 are 500$ here in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. So if he could feel the difference between the X50 and the X60 that much, I'm sure there's a major difference between the X20 and the X60. The Mafia Line 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 Man, they sell skates at sears in Canada? Thats awsome. The thing is that my buddy isn't thrilled about trying hockey. He's not a team sport kinda guy. We go snowboarding, skiing, climbing, rafting that kind of stuff. This summer he dragged me camping (I love outdoor activities, just hate sleeping outside) so I'm dragging him to hockey, so I'm not sure he's really down to keep playing on a regular basis. The cheapest skates will do.Funny thing, this kid can go down a double black diamond, doing 360s and whatnot, but could hardly shoot a basketball. It's weird but team sports isn't his thing.
