Want to Make AAA

Recommended Posts

Well I have decided I'm going to take this very seriously. I have about 6 months until the AAA tryouts and right now I plan on making the team by then. I am called up to a AA practice tomorrow. Does anyone have any nutrition or training advice. I will be skating almost every weekdend at the Adult Shinny's where I got the chance to play with Pro, OHL, Junoir A, CIS and NCAA players. Add more icetime to that because I made my high school team the other day. So does anyone have any advice on how I should go about this, like I said I'm going to take this very seriously the next 6 months.

Working out is essential. You don't want to be knocked off the puck easily, so you need to build muscles in all the right areas (core, legs, etc). Also need to have a solid thinking game. When you watch games try to study them and watch what players do.

I average 2 points easy in aa, one of the faster players on the ice almost at all times. I step on the ice with aaa guess what happens .. too slow. Your going to have to keep your legs moving at all times, you may have great hands but the speed will likely overwhelm you. I know my legs have to be going at full speed all the time just to keep up, I cant do a lot of the moves i do in aa because the hockeys so much faster and i dont have the food speed. Its a HUGE step up..

although i had a rough week that set me back the biggest difference in my stamina was when i was strict with my food. no alcohol, soda, even alot of fruit drinks, and candy. eat allllot of fruits and veggies and use chicken and fish as your main protein. simple enough and helped me feel in much better shape than normal

Well some places like where I live we only have an A team and an Ae team and essentially house league. All my buddies who were on the A team ever since they were kids played pretty much like a AA team and came out first 2 years in a row. Some guys decided to play AAA hockey and chose that over playing with the same guys. The same thing has been stated and my bud exactly said this " took me 4 months to get use to AAA hockey from single A" who is a defencemen. It's faster, a lot of harder hits, and teams don't give up possession of the puck that easily, definitely require's smarter thinking in plays. If you have 6 months and your serious you can do anything just remember to love the game!

Nice!

For nutrition, it depends on your body. I've found out I'm somewhat carb intolerant, so I actually have more energy and feel a lot better when I eat under 10g carbs per meal (less than a slice of bread!). But a lot of skinny guys load up on carbs for energy. I'd try different things on practice days when it's not as important.

About the only constant is to stay away from sugar/candy/soda and really fatty foods before games...I haven't heard many people who play better with a Big Mac, fries, and a large Coke before a game rather than some light pasta and chicken or something.

A lot of people think its foolish but i feel i play best with a few double cheeseburgers and a coffee in me.

My pregame meals this weekend were McNuggets one day and a small steak the next. A couple weeks ago, a pair of doubles had me feeling pretty ill though.
