CCM 852, 1152, Pro tacks

Recommended Posts

Opportunity to pick up slightly used (as in, ..."worn three times then gave up" ) CCM 852 super tacks, 1152 custom tacks or the pro tacks model skates...just wondering as to which ones to go with ?

Not much information out there since these are no longer made, I know the pro tacks are the lightest and probably the stiffest is there anything else one should know?

Is there much diference between the 852 and 1152 aside from weight and stiffness?

Also the 852 and 1152 come with the pro lite 3 holder and the Pro Tacks have tuuks, I read some dissatisfaction about the pro lite 3, what gives?

Thanks

pro lites have a little give to them and can feel less than stable if you are a big guy. They also break much more frequently on blocked passes and shots. As for the 852 and 1152, it all depends on what year they were made. If they have the purple/silver graphics, they are pretty much junk.

Chadd,

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm 5'10, 185 lbs, so not exactly what you would call a big guy but then again I would prefer to have skate where I don't have to worry about the holder especially since I play defense as well as forward.

What in particular don't you like about the 852 and 1152 besides the pro lite holder?

Thanks again!

I have mine (952) for more than 9 years now - still in good shape and no complains. They are very well made. Back in the days when a skate was made in canada, it really meant something..there's nothing to be compare with the new generation of high end skates made in canada but somehow less "well crafted" that those made overseas ... :(

Like someone said, it depends on the year they were made, if i remember correctly there's a bad year.

But keep in mind that technically they are rather outrun by the newest skates... lightness, fit, features... even if they are quite light.

Concerning the prolite3 holder it's awesome but there again new holders are much more stiff and the blade is still the same than the one you'll find on U+ etc ...

Between 852 vs 1152, the latter has better features... on the ice you won't notice any difference, 852 is already an high skate!

But serious if you have to buy some tacks go for the 1st 1052 (this is like the golden age of the tacks serie) kevlar boot+carbon outsole+PL3

I had a pair of these and they were great. They lasted forever. Biggest complaints include: had to ditch the pro lite carriers. I'm a 200+ guy and I could feel the pro lites bend and over flex when I skated. My only other complaint to the skate was that the tendon guard kinda wrapped to the sides of the boot instead of coming straight down at a right angle towards the heel. I had mine custom made so I hade the upper piece (plastic removed, leather stayed) of the tendon guard removed. Even then when I pointed my toes out, the tendon gaurd (leather) really dug into the back of my leg. Didn't really like it. The only other changes I had done were double tongues and double stiched. Though I noticed CCM upgraded the retail skate the next year and had them double stiched as well.
