Mid curves?

Recommended Posts

So I'm looking at some big mid curve in the retail world and I need some suggestions. I'm coming from a Malkin pro stock (Dolo blade) in a Dolo 100 flex shaft and it's probably my favorite setup. Some q's:

What's the difference between the CCM Thornton and Tavares? Is it just lie, or something else? Are they deeper than a retail Kovalchuk?

I remember holding a U+ with the Thornton and liked it, and I kind of like the Warrior Kovalchuk (Could be a little deeper), I just want the closet thing to my pro Malkin as I can get but don't really know what that is. I guess you could say my preferences are:

Deep mid, closed/neutral, low lie, long blade (If possible).

EDIT: I think I remember the Thornton being closed/neutralish, not open like the Coffey.

probably go with the thornton, if you are using blades you could always just buy wood blades and bend 'em to your liking. Otherwise, good idea is to go with the thornton, mine snapped but it's a good curve, lie 6

the last Thornton i had was deep and neutral. i'm now on milder Bauer P88's

Agreed - the Lindros curve is about as deep a mid curve as you're gonna find.

Warrior Kovalchuk's are deeper.

Thy're open though, aren't they?

No, they're neutral. They're more closed than the P88.

Actually, those are kind of deceiving, here are two sticks I owned (One95 P88 and Dolomite HD Kovalchuk):

Kovalchuk, kind of kinked, neutral:

Robitaille, smoother curve, more open:

P88, flatter, slightly open:

I also have one of those Malkin Pro Dolo's and with the exception of blade length I think my P88 XXXX is damn close

About to send in my Free U+CL rebate... trying to decide on the Tavares (which is supposed to be the closest to P88) and Thornton (which should be closer to my Malkin Pro)

Anyone have an idea?

IMO the Thornton is more like the Coffey/Yzerman than anything. Just a huge banana curve. I'd go Tavares in this situation. Good luck.
