Easton Motion Pants Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi - I'm thinking about getting a pair of either the Motion Elite or Motion S15's. Does anyone have either of these and can give some feedback - how is the comfort, mobility, weight, etc....? How is the back/tailbone protection in particular?

Any info is appreciated.

Hey, I picked up the S15 motion pants off another member here and have used them for several months now. Here's are my thoughts:

  • I like the fact that the velcro tabs are built into the girdle portion and you can insert a jock in there too so I no longer need to use jock shorts (still use dryfit pants underneath)
  • The girdle offers a snug, but comfortable fit. A bit lighter and slightly more mobile than the Nike Quest 1 pants I used to have. The shell with the thigh guards also has zippers and velcro tabs to further customize the fit.
  • They've been holding up well and I haven't encountered any durability issues
  • The back/tailbone protection seems adequate for me for beer league, but a little less substantial then the Nike Air tailbone protector on my old pants. I haven't had any issues with this yet, but I did read in the product catalogue section that the new Motion Elite pants have beefed up tailbone protection so if that's important to you, you may want to grab those instead. I'm happy with the S15s as they provide the mobility I desire and I feel more than enough protection for beer league and pickup.

I just bought the Easton elite pants and I like them. They're really comfortable and the tailbone protection is very good. You do give up some protection in the front of the pant for the expense of mobility. The hip and kidney protection is very good as well. My waist size is 32' and I'm 5'10, so I got a L and the fit is crazy awesome.

S-15's are very nice pants featuring lot's of protection and good mobility. The beauty of Easton hockey pants is you can usually go down one model from their top of the line and still get more than adequate protection for most levels of hockey. Although their Z-Airs where top of the line you'd still see a lot of guys wearing the Airs a few years back because they where so nicely protected.

I'm surpised you went with the large since sizing guidelines say M is 32-34. Did you try them on before buying? I can't find them anywhere around me. Do you wear L for traditional pants? My numbers are similar to yours (5'11"; 165lbs; 31-32" waist) - my guess is I'm more slight in the upper body - so I'm figuring on ordering the L based on your experience. I hope it works out.

I would've thought he'd take a medium too...I have the L size in the S-15s and usually wear large in other pants and am 6'2", around 215lbs, somewhere in the 34-36 inch waist range and the S-15s are snug, but comfortable and I actually do up the belts and velcro quite a bit. I don't like the feeling of the pants feeling like they're going to fall down though so I always make them pretty snug around the waist. The Large Nike Quest 1's I used to wear could've been a touch longer, but I actually had to tighten the belt and draw string a lot to secure them around the waist.

Nothing beats trying them on, but I'm happy with the Large.

I had/have a pair of the Motion 15's. I like them alot. They're light and give you good mobility. I had previously had tacklas and they could not be a more different fit. They're not as protective as the Tacklas, but we're playing in the NHL are we? They're snug but not restrictive. I'm 5'9", 167lbs. and I got mediums. They're pretty small on me, but they work. The only thing is that the thigh pad doesn't quite come up high enough for my liking. So I'd err on the side of too big.

I've since switched to pro stock CCMs because I like the looser fit. Purely a comfort thing. But if you want a snugger pant that still lets you move, you can't beat the price the 15's are going for now....

Hey, thanks for all the info. Actually I was able to try the S15s on a few days ago - not bad and very light. They did have a pair of the Elite's, but it was in size large so I didn't bother - although I might give it a shot considering Yakus got in them and I have basically the same waist size.

Overall, they felt great, but not much different than my girdle, so I'm not sure if it's worth the switch.

Tell you the truth, the best pant that I tried was the Bauer One95 - awesome fit and super light and breathable. I've been wearing the girdle for awhile, so pants usually always feel constricting, but these were great. They have a lot of mesh in them too so I bet they don't get hot. I'm just not sure if I want to spend that much.

Just tried an Easton Synergy ST10 girdle in M. If the fit is representative, I can see how an L could work for me (again, 5'11"; 165lbs; 32" waist).

Like I told kklinder, my friend had ordered a size S in the S15 from hockeymonkey, but they shipped him a Motion Elite girdle in a size L and the S15 shell in a size S. A couple days later, I order the Motion Elite in a size M and it came as ordered. I tried on the Motion Elite in both the M and the L and the large fit was a bit better. With the M, I couldn't velco the front tab at all (I'm 5'10, 170lbs and a 32' waist), but with the L I was able to velco the front tab. That's why I'm now using the Motion Elite girdle in a large and a medium Motion Elite shell. You can say it was a good thing hockeymonkey sent my friend the wrong model and size for the girdle.
