XXV vs. X40

Recommended Posts

Hey guys wondering if you could help me. I currently own the vapor XXV skates. Problem is they are to shallow for my feet and have given me lace bite so bad I cannot skate with them. I have even tried bunga pads and they do not seem to help a whole bunch. My question is I have been looking for different skates in my price range and have found that the x40 seems to fit the best. I am kind of worried about getting the x40 due to the fact it is almost the same skate as the xxv. But when I try them on the x40 does seem to be deeper fit than the old vapor. Is this true or something I am trying to fabricate because I like the skate. Any help would be appreciated. And also what are the differences between the 2 skates if any.

Thanks

Have you tried the pencil test? You can read more about it in this thread http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...5&start=105

I had vapor shifts from the vapor XXX generation and for a fact they were a bit too shallow and I just the new vapor x:50's and they are certainly a lot deeper then the vapor XXX generation but I can't say about the vapor 40 generation as I have never tried them on.

Have you considered the CCM U+ or Graf 709/G70 series?

If you cannot pass the pencil test in a Vapor, chances are you wont pass it in Easton as well. Vapors are nice n wide, but shallow.

I tried the pencil test, on the XXV I fail and have my ankle pushes the pencil up about 3/8 inch on each side. On the X40 the pencil slides along the top of my ankle hardly touching. Is skate that much deeper? By the looks of the pencil test it is

You might want to try the newer Supreme series, specifically the one95. Or if you also have wide toes, the flexlite 4.

Even if the Flexlite has "wide" toes it doesnt mean he'll pass the pencil test.

The Graf 709/G70s and the CCM U+ series all have more depth than any of the Bauer or Easton skates IMO
