flyweightphantom 1 Report post Posted November 19, 2009 I have skated with a flexlite 12 for ice over the past few year without problem. So since I've had problems with a lot of my roller hockey skates causing me pain and blisters I decided to do a conversion with the new flexlite 4.0 pro. Trying the skates on, they felt perfect no problems. Had them baked and now i've been skating on them the past 4-5 months but I get severe ankle pain mostly on the outside part of the "high" ankle. The boot digs into my skin and by the second period that part is so raw and painful. I've tried thicker socks they dont help at all. Could the problem be that I keep the top eyelet undone? I skate terrible with the top one laced up I feel off balance. Anyone else have a similar problem with this skate or other skates? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

And also off balance easier..So i always laced it to the top. or maybe you can usa neoprene material or something thicker to cover your ankle? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

sogaduch 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2009 what I would try was something i saw a customer do once which is he laces his skate up regularly then he skips the 2nd eyelot at the top goes to the top and then back down so the actual bow in the lace is going across the middle of the top two eyelots Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
flyweightphantom 1 Report post Posted November 20, 2009 Right when I start skating, I feel the pressure. Pain really sets in around the 2nd period. By the end of the game its bad and my high ankles are raw and bleeding. I've tried with it laced all the way up and I feel so off balance its very uncomfortable so I immediately switch back. Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted November 20, 2009 What's your depth (as a measure of volume) like at the top eyelet? This is a completely second-hand observation, but I seem to recall that most people with similar pain/problems tend to have had ankles that were proportionally small for the skate.If that's the case, you might need to take up a little extra volume at the top eyelet. The permanent solution would be to have a cobbler or skate-shop sew a little band of low-density foam (maybe LD45 - covered with some kind of liner material like Nash or Ultima) around the inside of the throat of the skate. If that's not an option, you could try to find a skate sock that is thicker from the ankle up. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

They really did fit extremely well all around and the 4.0 Pro's seem to have the best combination of forward flex and unbelievable lateral stiffness. Absolutely the best of both worlds.One thing you might try are bunga pads on the area that is causing you pain. I used them while breaking in my current skates around the ankle bones. The Flexlites definitely are on the wide side in the forefoot area with a lot of toe box room and the heel is on the narrow side with incredible heel lock. It has a contoured shape to it and you know right away if you have the right foot for this skate. For me it fit like a glove...as I said above I'm picking up my pair today. I had to have my size ordered because the pair the shop had in my size had a defect in the tongue which caused the lace bite guard to dig right into the tendon on top of my foot. Flexlites ended up fitting my foot perfectly. The only thing I plan on doing is swapping out the tongues though. I'm just not a fan of the plastic insert.
