It's getting a bit burdensome to keep glueing and double-sided taping my pads into my old bauer 4000 helmet Some may say I'm a bit more of a traditionalist when it comes to hockey gear, so I'm not a fan of chunky, bloated type helmets and I like the fit of my old bauer 4000. Have these style helmets stayed somewhat true to the older feel? I have not been in the market for a new helmet for six or seven years so I haven't really paid much attention to the changing market. Also, do they make any of the more traditional style/fit helmets with the other type of padding (EPP?).

Bauer 4500??? Looks pretty much the same to me. Maybe someone can chime in and know what the difference between the 4000 and 4500 are.

I was in the same boat as you as I was coming off of the NBH 4500. When I was looking for a new helmet I wanted something with a little more protection so I tried on the 5500. I thought most of the Bauer helmets would fit relatively the same but I found the 5500 (and the other higher end models) were pinching my temples.

Turns out I don't have the head for the new'er' Bauer gear. After shopping around I got the RBK 6K. Though it's pretty bulky compared with the 4000/4500, it fits my head nicely and it's got the EPP foam =)

I would suggest you go to the store and try on as many helmets as possible and see what fits best

I liked my 8k a lot more then my 4500 to be honest, there great helmets. Another helmet i would try is a vector v10, love mine.

Biggest difference between the two is that the 4500 is reinforced in the screw areas.

It's the old Bauer 4000. Easiest way to tell the difference is how "bauer" is written on the front and the Flying B's on the side.

**note- I do plan on trying things on, but wanted to have an understanding of what's out there as to not go in blind.

I think i can speak on this subject, i had a nike 0004, bauer 4000 and an NBH 4500.

It may be just me, but i find the 4500's fit tighter behind the ears than the previous styles of the 4000. This is probably due to the reinforcement around the screws. I referee so i need the ear pieces, but i cut and sanded it to ease the pressure in that area, fits fine now.

If you like the fit of your 4000s then the 4500s would be your logical choice

anyone know the differences between the 6k and the 8k '08 models? From reading hockey monkey it looks like the only real major difference is this MICRODIAL system.

It has the orbital adjustment feature which really helps to secure the helmet on the back of your head comfortably.
