Stick sizing dilemma

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a One95 shaft-blade combo, but I'm not quite sure what size to get. I am 5'7" 120 lbs and I currently have a senior 54" stick butt to heel at 80 flex (about chin level on skates), and a junior 52" stick butt to heel at 50 flex (about chest level on skates), both about 5 years old. I find the junior stick much easier to flex, while I find the senior 54" to be more a little more comfortable in terms of reach. However, I've noticed that the junior stick forces me to bend my knees a lot more, something which has helped me considerably as I've transitioned from inline to ice.

The junior shaft is 45" and the intermediate is 49". I would go for the intermediate (67 flex), but I'm afraid that cutting it down will make it too stiff for me. Just how many inches does the One95 blade add to the stick? Does adding the blade match the OPS length (52" and 57")? Would I be better off buying a junior and adding a plug or would that make it too whippy? I'm not sure what to do and would appreciate any help.

IMO, I would go for the intermediate.. A Junior stick is SMALL and even at 120 lbs... I am sure you would be able to break it if you wanted to with enough flex. How old are you anyways? I have a friend who is about your height and weight and he uses an intermediate. he is pretty ripped though as he can basically bench as much as me. hes a cop too. But yea, junior is 50 flex.. that is next to nothing.. The only time I have seen anyone use a junior stick is 6 year olds and I am not exaggerating. You said you have a senior AND a junior? Which do you prefer? You already have a junior so you should know if you like that or not... If the senior is too stiff, then go in between and get an intermediate.

Me head hurts after reading that first response.

Senior blades add around 8" or so to the length on average, I'm guessing that a junior would be closer to 6" but I don't have any at the house to measure. My suggestion would probably be the intermediate, but your ability to flex the sticks should be the most important factor.

You are almost literally an Identical copy of me in size, I am 3 pounds heavier, I know you said shaft blade combo, but I think you will like the 60 flex int. ONE95 OPS.

I have the same problem (5'7 125). I don't want to use a junior because the blades are short and the lie is lower. I just noticed Warrior has a 55 flex Intermediate. It's grip, but the warrior grip doesn't bug me as much as the sticky easton grip. You can custom order a one95 or x60 in a 60 flex w/o grip from the mybauer site. I've been using an INT 70 flex U+CL cut down 2 inches. I love the stick, but I do wish I could get more flex. They don't make less than 70. My shots are fine, but I've learned to shoot with a stiff flex due to my size. I just ordered a 60 flex from bauer and I can't wait to try it and see if it helps the shot.
