i think its stupid. I've seen alot of knee on knee hits and nothing more then a penalty, sometimes not even a penalty, but it happens to Crosby and OH NO!.

4 games for jumping the the guy and beating on him, then pushing away the ref to get back at him. Then 8 games for a knee on knee in the midst of play. The Q is playing favorites and they want to send a message that you can't touch Crosby. It seems they want to make sure he has every opportunity to set a new record.

Why should guys be able to hit Crosby, or anyone for that manner, knee on knee when they don't even have the puck?

Personally, I don't see the problem. More leagues should try and protect the stars of their game in a manner such as this.

And from a financial standpoint, what is worse for the league, Sidney Crosby missing time or Cabana missing time?

I am going on a limb since I didn't see it.

But it probably was an example. Sad thing is, if it happened to a "no body" I gaurentee the suspension would be less. And thats not right.

The stars should be treated the same as any other player and thats not the case. Who cares how much money they bring in? (Obviously thats the bottom line). But in the end they are all Humans and should be treated the same.

If we are going to treat them all the same, then all NHLers should be paid the same, right?

Good point Jim. Does anyone have a video of the hit?

Your right on, it's not fair at all.

8 games for Cabana is ok, but the other guy should at least have get 8 games.

??

Its common class and courtesy. Are you saying that a guy getting paid 6 million in the NHL should get better health treatment if he got injured then a guy getting 1 million (Just example)? Or that the person who injured the star should get more time, then if he injured an average player?

Man, I think thats disgraceful.

I don't see it fair that they give so many games for this just because its Crosby. As I said, I can't make too many judgements since I didn't see the hit, but its painfully obvious of what is going on.

This isn't health treatment.

Suspensions are doled out not because leagues are worried about the health and well being of the players as much as they have a vested interest in seeing their investments do well.

Players are investments in sports. And leagues and owners are going to try and protect a player more that gives them more of a return on their investment.

This is a business. And suspensions are business decisions.

I know its not health treatment (hence the: for example).

Sorry, but I can't agree with double standards.  I don't see why a player would get a more severe suspension for injuring a star then injuring a 3rd liner.  In the end, you should call it the same.

To each their own, though.

Simple, more people pay money to see Sidney Crosby play than see Cabana play.

Therefore, the league has a more vested interest in keeping players from hurting Crosby than hurting Cabana.

It's just like in real life. If you steal $50 you do a lot less jail time than if you steal $50,000. Crosby's worth more to the league, therefore a dirty hit on him will cost more in a suspension apparently.

If the league didn't come down harder on hits on Crosby, then teams would take him out with goons because it would give them a better chance at winning if they can get him out of the lineup.

What advantage is there to knocking Cabana from a game, really?

Plus, I think you are underestimating the fact that the hit was when Crosby didn't even have the puck. The league could be harsher on Cabana because he wasn't making a play on the puck when he was hitting Crosby. And they may feel like he was doing it merely to try and get Crosby out of the game.

I think people should look at the apposing coach for this. Crosby was kneed and he didnt even have the puck obvously the player was sent out to take him out. And its not the first time an apposing coach has tried to do this. They should fine the coach and suspend the player for this.

Who said the coach told him to? I think theres enough motivation for all of the QMJHL to do a similar act without having a coach tell you to. Think how frustrating it must be to play in that league against him.
