Need new skates! Suggestions:

Recommended Posts

I'm in need for some new skates, my Easton 1500c's are getting too small and too tight. They are sized 7D. In most skates i am probly looking at a 7.5 E. Based on my foot what do you suggest would be some good styles/ brands? Money isin't an issue, likely priced under 500$ is fine. Anything above that still mention as this years models are about to go on sale.

Kinda hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like you may need a higher volume skate at the top of your foot. I would suggest maybe CCM U+ Pros or something in the Bauer Supreme line as they are built to accommodate a higher foot volume. You also seem to have wider toes, the Supreme toe cap may feel the best.

He'd fail the pencil test in the Supremes. The CCM U+ series would be a good bet or Graf 709/G70/670 skates

Eastons are wide but shallow

Bauer Flexlites are not as shallow but still a definite "L" shape

I concurr with epstud74. I might also add, give a few pairs of Reebok skates a try as well because you seem to have a fairly wide heel.

I tried on the CCM U+ pro reloadeds, there not good out of the box but how much nicer is the feel once you mold them? I found the 08 U+ pro's online for 240$ is it worth the 300$ more for the reloadeds?

There is no point in buying the U+ style skate w/o having them heated. The whole premise of this skate is to be heat molded around your foot. Why would you wear them w/o molding them?

Sorry what i'm trying to say is that i tried them on at my LHS but i wasn't saying that i wouldn't get them molded. I mean't that the comfort out of the box isin't very nice, and asking what the feel of the skate is after the mold.

But how many shops would allow you to have them baked then say "well they just don't fit right"...

Who knows? but the whole theory behind those skates is to get them heat molded. IMO they're just a piece of modeling clay prior to molding. Did they fit? This is something LHS's will need to address along with CCM in the future. Especially if skates are going in this direction.

Should be interesting to see how CCM markets their skates. I received a pair of U+ 09 as warranty replacements. I've gotta agree with you, out-of-the-box they were just plain uncomfortable, I honestly didn't think that I was going to be happy with them. After being baked, they are the most comfortable skates I've ever owned. The saving grace is I think that the U+ will mold to a pretty wide range of feet (I've got some freakishly wide fore-mid feet, flat arches, thin ankles, and require above average volume).
