Left / Right handed shafts

Recommended Posts

Hi - need some help from the people in the know...

I'm a left handed player, and i recently picked up a nice old Easton Carbon Tip shaft with a right handed blade for next to nothing.

I've always used woodies, so have no idea on shafts. I was planning on replacing the blade for a left hand blade but i just saw some text on the shaft saying "right".

Do shafts come in left/right hand? Can i use this as a left hand stick?

I belive the stick is convex/concave from a search i did - what does that mean?

Thanks guys

Rich

True, almost all shafts can be used either way, however, I have an Inno that was for LH only, had something to do w/ the flex of the shaft. I'm not sure about this model but it sounds like it could be for Righties.

Hmm...I cant flip it either because it has a carbon tip (as it says on the tin) where the blade goes in, so wouldnt want to put that at the glove end

Maybe i'll just sell it on - it's 'ungoogleable' (2 english results only) and can only find that thread above in this forum, so must be a pretty vintage item.

I think I heard of something about the new 11k stick, that depending on handedness there are reinforcements on one side of the shaft (Near the hosel) but not the other. Helps with a stronger, lower kick point. A shaft literally can't be lefty or righty, as they can be use either way. If a lefty (or righty) wanted to use a righty (or lefty) shaft, it physically can do so, the graphics would just be upside down.

But in my example, where it has a carbon tip re-inforcement, i would lose that reinforcement. Plus turning it around will change the kick point right?

I don't mean flipping it, I mean switching it. For example: put the carbon tip on the floor. Hold the stick righty. Now walk aroundthe stick, don't flip it, don't twist it, just walk to the lefty position and change your hands accordingly. Same side of the shaft is facing the goalie, the carbon tip is still at the bottom, but the graphics are upside down. Stick functions the same way just looks weird.

Ahhhh nice one my man - why didn't I see that!?

I have to turn it around as the shaft is convex and concave - so the Easton text is upside down now, but i dotn think it really matters.

When i get a new lefty blade for it, will it fit right? (being upside down as such...are standard hosels dead straight all round?

Why don't you just rotate the thing 180 degrees so the text is facing up?

It has a 'carbon tip' - carbon fibre reinforcement where the blade goes in, so figure it's best to keep the blade in there

I guess i could spray it or get it powder coated

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not familiar with the shaft and didn't know if it was side specific (Think of a Salming OPS, now imagine it's a shaft, it's side specific if the graphics become a concern).

it's side specific - convex one side, concave the other. So you have to shoot one way only.

Only thought now is this: in its normal position, it's upright and you shoot as normal, with pressure going down the stick that way. If i do as i have described, it will be like applying pressure 'upside down' i.e. from underneath

dya reckon tht will be a problem? Are they built with that in consideration

I don't think so. That would require two separate manufacturing lines. I bet they did the same thing in the factory that you're planning to do right now before putting labels on them.
