Martin Brodeur Sets Shutout Record

Recommended Posts

Technically he's only in sole possession of the NHL regular season shutout record - he's still tied at 104 with George Hainsworth for major professional regular season shutouts.

It's an astonishing achievement. The only other goalies who played in his era are dozens of shutouts off his pace, and nobody current will ever get close, despite all the so-called advantages of goalies these days. Of everyone in the top ten, he played in by far the highest scoring era.

About the only major category he likely won't finish on top of is playoff wins, since he's about 50 back of Roy - but then again, two or three more late playoff runs and he'd be within striking distance.

And all with legal goalie gear too ;)

and since you brought him up...Hainsworth's 22 SO in a season is ridiculous, I think he did that in the old 42 (or 45) game season too. Kinda safe to put that in the category or Gretz's points, DiMaggio's streak and Ryans No No's as the untouchable records in sports.

But, yes...congrats to Marty.

The best part, the guy just seems like a good guy, well, except his little sister-in-law thing or whatever but you never saw any of the tantrums or such as we did from that other French Canadian goalie of his ilk.

Brodeur has been the best goalie in the NHL for the past decade plus, I think hes better than Roy actually and if he can take the devs deep into the post season within these next years it will show that even at his end of his career he can still stop the best of them.
