breaking in equipment

Recommended Posts

Skates and some other things can be baked/heated to fit. Gloves sometimes can have fingers manipulated to loosen them up. You can probably wear some things around the house to loosen them up such as pants. Other than that I'd believe ice time is best.

I just wear most of the gear on the ice like most have suggested. I try going to a few pick up sessions and stick and puck to get a good feel of the equipment before I use them in a game.

As for gloves, I hold the opening (cuff area) over a boiling pot of water so the steam gets in and I do this for a few minutes and then wear the gloves. Works quite well for me.

Some people say to wear your skates around the house (using hard skate guards of course) and even to wear it with a thin wet sock. If they're thermoformable then baking them will instantly give you a better fit.

Gloves i find that they break down real nice if you just chuck them in the washer for a wash and spin. Repeat until they reach the desired feel.

I've never had to break in elbows and shins, but my shoulders and shorts get the laundry treatment as well.

I'm still waiting for thermoformable helmets, those would really help comfort. Otherwise you just have to wear them to break those in.

Need any help on breaking in sticks? :P
