A Good Skate For Shot Blocking?

Recommended Posts

Hey all i may be in the market in '10 for a good "Firm" skate. I block alot of shots and am a grinder/defensive defenceman type of player. I know that the composite skates are more rugged as far as construction goes, i was just wondering on your thoughts of which brand may fit me needs the best. BTW for what it's worth I'm currently using the old Nike Zoom Air Skates.

I have taken several direct shots on my one95's and have been shocked. I have even skated up the ice a couple times wondering if the puck actually hit me....Could be old age and feet that have become numb to it but I have never felt so protected by a skate.

You could always search for a pair of Lange's! Old school ski boots with blades.

well im not talking holmstrom here, i do want all the modern technology & bells and whistles. But if imma drop $500+ on a pair of skates i want them to suit the game I play.

Second year of being an EQM. One95s are by far the tank of the skate world. I've seen a few of our players take absolute howizters from 5 feet and come out with just a stinger.

i would go with the one95 if it fits your foot properly. im in the market myself and plan on getting these here soon. the LHS employee i talked to about these skates said the same thing about how he blocked a shot and didnt even feel it.

+1 here. If the boot doesn't fit you're gonna have more problems than just blocking shots.

i believe they are still in the "custom" phases...plus I plan on getting new skates anyways...My top 2 pics are the SE16 or the U+

U+ have pretty good protection. However, the hard material that is on the outside of the boot will crack. The skate will be structurally fine. This happen to one of my skates. The only thing that worries me about my U+ is the tendon guard.
