Does a shop owner have a few minutes to spare to educate my message board?

It's too funny to think there is a morality to 'proper' shopping. I cannot even believe the owners would agree with that guy. They totally want people to come into their stores. People see stuff and buy it all the time even when they were not planning to. The very idea that a person shouldn't shop around for the best deal is ludicrious!

This is my Sabres forum and occasionally we get equipment questions. Along with that, we get the usual suspects who offer the advice to "try it on at the LHS and go buy it online after". Of course, when I try to explain why that is wrong, you get the typical excuses.

Does anyone have a few minutes to register and serve the greater good?

Given my experience with people here, there's almost no chance that guy will change his mind about anything.

Perhaps, but what I have found (I've run message boards since 1998) is that people may argue at 1st because they feel guilty and want to justify their shitty behavior, but maybe in time they begin to see things in a new light. But, more importantly, it is those who are reading the thread and not arguing who can be swayed.

Barring any actual intervention - is there a particular post you can recall hear that sums up the situation? I do recall your answer about "I'll sell you this item for the price over the internet, but you can't try it on, can't feel the item, and I'll ship it to your house..." or something to that effect.

Agree with Chadd and SDS here.. You made your position and point very clear and the guy is just a tard and wont change his position online atleast.. BUT.. You may have planted a seed with him as well as others who have read the thread without responding and they may think before they pull the same crap.. Nice forum by the way!

Pretty sure that was buzz in the shop employee topic. I'll dig around but if you go into that topic and use the search within the topic you may be able to find it before me.

There is a half liquor/skate shop in Amherst? What a great way to get customers to get over spending too much $$$ I'd be in there with a 7&7 and trying on skates and probably end up walking out with a new pair of skates, gloves and sticks w/o even looking at the price.

I'm not a shop owner, but I can give some real world feedback. I coached a kid who started late and was working hard to make it to the AA level. After three years work, he was definitely ready for bantam AA. The next season, the seven coaches, including myself, voted based on his try-out performance not to take him at AA. He just didn't justify it through performance. He got knocked off balance way too easy for a big strong kid and was sketchy skating backwards at defense.

I was really suprised because I knew this try out was in his mind all summer and he worked hard on everything. I asked him about his gear since he had new gloves, and he said he bought some new GRAF's on-line because his two AAA buddies wore Graf's, but they were way to tight and they hurt. That explained his balance and backwards skating. He went from a Reebok 5k boot to a G3 with Cobra holders. Oy Vey, that's

Probably saved twenty bucks, but spent another year playing A when he was definitely ready for AA.

Happy ending...He got fitted properly by my friend's shop and RBK is what fits him. He is now playing Bantam Major AAA and still growing.
