I remember in the past, all goalies wore the full bird cage, and the euro teams wore some weird version of the cateye. OH well.. I am glad to see all players now are allowed to wear half cage and arent required to wear full cages/visors.

That's a certified cat-eye - maybe the strangest invention in the history of goaltending. It kind of looks a bit like a cat-eye cage, but the downward visibility is much, much worse than a standard straight-bar certified cage. It's basically a way for little kids to 'feel grown-up' and 'look like the pros.'

There aren't many masks with poor "visibility" - if by that you mean the ability to see through the open - unless the mask is ill-fitted or the bars on the cage interfere with the sight-lines peculiar to certain facial features. Why do you feel the Eddy Tusk is so praiseworthy?

That's rather what I meant - your preference for an Eddy Tusk is exactly that: personal preference.

While it might be possible that a given person preferred one particular certified cat-eye cage that agreed with their eyes and the fit of a particular mask shell to a certified straight-bar cage on the same shell which was less than ideal, a certified cat-eye is always a less optimal design in general than a straight-bar. There have been other threads written elsewhere on the geometry of the various kinds of cage, including the Beaupre straight-bar 'cheater' cage.

This is still a discussion worth having; most guys, even pros, will just use whatever mask was handed to them in juniors, whether it fits or not.

I have a RediC mask and I love it. I get hit in the head every single game, (mainly due to height issues) and I have never been hurt. I haven't had the same performance with Eddy, and Hackva
