Muck and Grind 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 I'm in the market for some new pants. My Tackla 951s are on death row. I wear Tackla size 46 and find that most senior size pants are too big for me. Mckenney as an extra small size which should work for me.Hockey World is selling the 750 Pro Elite as well the HP 8000 pants. Can anybody tell me if either of these are any good and if either model is better than the other? I'm looking to get a bit more protection than what I'm currently wearing.Thanks. dsjunior1388 81 Report post Posted January 15, 2010 I have the Pro Elite, fantastic pants. The kidney/spine protection in the back is shorter like the older style pants, but they are very protective otherwise, I don't see or feel any real gaps in the padding and I've never been stung in an open spot with a shot or anything like that. The zipper on the inside of the leg is also pretty nice. I got mine at Perani's for $30 or so in their annual spring sale, but for $50 online you're still getting a decent deal, they used to be $110. hamstercaster 2 Report post Posted January 15, 2010 If they are anything like their goalie pants, then they should be very good player pants

Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted January 15, 2010 McKenney has a well-deserved reputation for build quality. As for the fit and function of their player pants, I can't comment.
carterb 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 I bought a pair of HP 8000's some time back and can vouch for them. The hip and thigh pads are monsters, but as dsjunior pointed out the spine/kidney padding is a bit skimpy compared to other contemporary high-end pants. Good rear protection too. They are built like pro pants, I find them to be very similar to Bauer pro models. I bought them at 110$ and would do so again, so for 50$ it's a steal. Never really figured out the difference between the Pro Elite's and HP 8000's, both seem to have the same features. @kerrI'm 6'3" and the HP 8000's in large are plenty long. Muck and Grind 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 I took the plunge and bought the 750 model. I ordered the XXS size (Hockey World sizing) which turned out to be the Euro sizing of "46".First impressions...The fit is very similar to my size 46 Tackla 951, but with better protection. As previously mentioned, kidney/spine protection could be a bit beefier, but it should satisfy my needs. I was also looking at the Tackla 5000 Air which I think this pant is similar to. Think of it as a poor man's 5000 Air; not as protective, but solid protection at a fraction of the price.I have yet to wear them on the ice, so if there is interest, I can post more commentary in a few weeks time. I skate 3X/week...Thanks to all.
