difference in bauer xxxx and x-40

Recommended Posts

the x 40 is a a great skate. Price point gear is getting better and better. I feel a lot of the people on this board just want the best gear and would never even think about getting something that wasn't the best. If you play 5 times a week and are hard on your skates go for the xxxx. if you realize your not a pro or arn't playing jr, midget aaa, ncaa, then the x:40 is more than enough skate for you. You probably wouldn't value from spending the extra money on a pro skate if your not gonna use it the way it was designed to be used.

as stated,i already bought the xxxx. they were $20 more then the x40. i skated on them again yesterday, and tied them alot looser then the first time i skated with them, it made a world of difference not having them cranked down tight

that's my rule with the vapor line, tight on the bottom and nice and loose through the last three eyelets, even with waxed laces it loosens up and I get a lot of forward flex and control... but damn!! They are stiff as well... I agree.

I also go barefoot which changes things slightly.

I hate the whole "price point" thing. It doesn't make sense to use that term.

The X:40 is similar spec-wise to the XXV, which was the skate right below the XXXX, at the what, $350 price point?

The X:50 is similar spec-wise to the XXXX, at a lower price point.

i did buy the XXXX, and skated in them for the first time yesterday.....what a difference from my 20 year old super tacks.....i felt like i had double runners on.....wow are they stiff...i felt like a rookie...they will get better right?????

Did you bake them? Makes a huge difference. You may have to bake 2x to get the fit you want, but with the stiffness of the XXXX it does make sense to alleviate the 6 months of foot pain with normal break-in by baking, skating, then baking again.
