Fourth Line Grind 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2010 First post in a while. Finishing up my first year of Engineering at the University of Alberta and we have to make a choice for which discipline of engineering we are going into by the end of the month. Im just curious if anyone on MSH has knowledge or even works as an engineer for a hockey company and could shed some light on my situation. If I had to guess I'd assume that Materials Engineering is the most relevant field since it deals with the properties of materials and how they react under certain circumstances. That being said I could be way off since I can also see Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering having their place too. Anyways if anyone could help me out or even let me know what someone with an engineering degree could do that relates to hockey I would much appreciated it. Thanks for reading wall of text.FLG
Trooper 8 Report post Posted March 2, 2010 I'm not in hockey, but I'm an engineer. You're correct in that there could be several approaches to this. Engineering projects are generally multi disciplined. Designing a skate could have input from all of the engineers you mentioned, biomechanic experts, etc. Internships are a necessity in engineering these days, see if you can get your foot in the door that way.
