radius / pitch

Recommended Posts

I have graf ultra g3's and despite trying to get used to the forward pitch, really am at the point I want to try something different. I have tried putting tuuks on past grafs, and for some reason they never seemed to work out right. I also had the pitch changed a long time ago on a pair of grafs, and they went from being slightly forward to way too backward. I'm wondering if changing the radius of the skate blades from a 9, which is what I think they are, to a 10 might be some help. The pitch on the skates now isn't terrible, but I always feel like I'd like it just slightly back some. Thanks.

Remember that the Graf is forward in two ways. First, the boot has an aggressive forward position. Second, the Cobra stock steel has a forward pitch.

I would suggest you have your steel profiled to a neutral position. This leaves you with only a boot with a forward pitch. I have put Tuuks on Graf in the past and I don't think there is any advantage to doing this. I can't feel much of a difference between the holders once the steel is profiled.

As for radius, it doesn't really have anything to do with the forward pitch of the boot nor the forward pitch of the steel. YOu may feel, however, having a longer radius helps with a forward pitched boot.

Finally, the Graf stock steel has a 11" radius.

I have a pair of G35 and I never got used to "aggressive forward angle". I tried replacing the blade holders ( T~BLades , Tuuk) and that did not change it at all. My suggestion is to find a shop with a CagOne Profiler ( see http://www.cagone.com/ and look for the Profiler link) and have the profile of the blade changed to be much less forward leaning. This can be expensive since you may need to have the skates profiled more than once. The GagOne does a great job on more traditional skates liek Bauers to create a nice comforatble forward feel that not as radical as Graf skates are.

Alternatively you can 1) remove the blade holders, 2)put lifts between the blade holder and the boot in the front only and then 2)re-attach the blade holders. This is what I ended up doing and it helps but the skates are still very forward.

Any recommendations for profiling in so. cal? The Toyota rink is probably where I'd go by default. Thanks.
