Tour TR982 G80 and G90 Skates

Recommended Posts

Which of these older models were a better skate? Are there any major differences in the boots as far as stiffness, weight, durability? Is there a major difference in the Labeda Sensor chassis to the Tour Tri-Coil chassis?

Out of those three skates, the G90 would be considered top of the line as it was the next generation Tour skate after the TR982.

I didn't use the TR982 or Fishbone as they were called, but I remember a lot of guys using them and swearing by them. I'm pretty sure they held up well but as far as weight and stiffness, I think I recall them being a tad heavy and somewhat soft. I had the 962 and they were a decent skate but nothing special, not a stiff boot by any means and rather heavy. Also the Tour boot was really wide back then and the frames were regular hi-lo set up I think.

The G series was the next line of skates Tour put out with the 90 being top of the line and 80s right below them. I had the G80s and they were a much stiffer boot than the 962 I owned and I loved the Sensor chassis as well, better than any hi-lo chassis. If I recall correctly, at that time for some reason a lot of guys chose the G80 over the G90 even though the 80 was the model down from the top of the line. The sensor Chassis was two 80 mm wheels in the rear, a 72 mm wheel, then a 76 mm wheel on the front of the chassis. I remember the G80 being a much more narrow and better fitting skate than then 962.

If I had to choose between those 3 skates, I would take another pair of G80s.

Wow, that pretty much tells me everything I could hope to know. I have a pair of TR902s that I really like but they are getting pretty tired at this point. I want to pick up a pair of these as a replacement for the TRs which are my backup skates. The only complaint I ever had about the 902s is the fact that they are so wide, and I have pretty wide feet. I'll probably grab a set of the G80s and see how they fit. Big thanks for all of the info!

Wow--"The Game" knows his stuff, pretty much right on. Guys, soon Tour will be introducing it's new Skate line. A lot of work has went into this line. We had hoped to release it early this year, but we were still tweaking the line in January. It was worth the wait. As we get a little closer to the introduction date we will post some photos and info.

5 pairs of 982's, 1 pair of G90's, and 2 pairs of 962s later...

982s were money... right up until the carbon fiber soul busted. Returned my skates 4 times for new ones.

G90s... Great minus the lace bite. The Labeda Sensor frames are still the best in the business, Period!

G80s... don't know, don't care. Had G90s.

962s... Best skates Tour has ever put out, except for the stiffness going as quickly as it did. Still have 2 pairs that I skate on... my "slipper" skates.

Last year we introduced one new skate, not a full line. Later this year we will be introducing 4 new skates. We will release some information soon.

Saw the new top end skate this weekend. VERY nice looking. Not very flashy at all. I was impressed.

Any more details on it?

Got a peek at a new model yesterday, upper to top end skate on a Tour tester and if the early release is the same as the final product, it's a slick looking skate while still keeping a little bit of the gaudy look. I don't want to jump the gun too much on what Chad might have to show, but Tour fans will like it.
