CCM U+ pro differences

Recommended Posts

After converting my old 1062 Tacks back to ice skates, I'm feeling its time to retire them and move on. They've taken a beating over the years. I'm interested in the CCM U+ skates but was wondering if there was any difference between the 08 and 09 skates, besides the runners. Picking up a pair of 08's for cheap would be better than going full price for 09's. Any ideas or reviews?

different steel, tongue, amount of foam, quarter package, etc.

The '08 model is an excellent skate for the price, but the '09 model is improved.

If you are talking about last years top end model and this years the option is easy.

Last years skate suffered many problems with durability such as tearing of the inner liner and bubbling of the outer quarter. I got a pair for a really good deal from my coach last season and the things basically fell apart on me and I am a really small guy and have never broken a skate down. Plus a lot of sharpeners struggle with the rocket runners.

I have this years skate and it is so much nicer and has stood up to some pretty rough beating and still looks almost new. As well as the runner is much easier for people to sharpen well.

All in all last years skate was a total piece of crap but this years is absolutely wonderful. But if you don't want to pay for the ccm u+ pro reloaded, you can just go and buy the ccm u+ 09 which is also a very nice skate.

Excellent skate for the price? Have you ever used it and seen them break down? All I am trying to say is that we had 4 kids in them thanks to a hook up our coach had. We were all in different skates with in 6 weeks.

Thanks guys. Thats exactly what I was looking for. Since I haven't purchased ice skates in a long time, I'm kinda at a loss at what to pick up. I like higher end skates (last pair was the CCM v10 roller), and was considering Bauer. Just concerned about fit issues and dont know how high end to go since I'm making the conversion to ice. So many choices. Oh what to do.

After a few months with the rocket runners, I switched to regular steel. I got tired of people not being able to sharpen them properly. I'll probably end up sewing RBK tongues in them, but other than that I can't say that I've had any problems. I guess it all boils down to how much wear and tear you subject them to.

The Bauer Supreme One75's are only $250 now. That's an excellent skate for the price.

You can't go wrong with trying skates on in a local store and picking up what feels best on your feet. All the other top end skates of last year have great durability, CCM just kind of dropped the ball last year in the skate and stick department.

I believe the original U+ Pros were recalled from Sport Maska. I have the current generation, there is a huge difference in skate with durability and materials, I would go with the 09 version.

Same with the se16, the U+ (08) has had horrible durability - with people who skate a lot at a high level.

If you skate 2-3 times a week in rec, the 08' is fine for the price. However if you are skating more than that or at a high level, go with the reloaded. Or if you have the money, go with the reloaded. Only way I'd go with u+ is if you skate at a lower level / dont skate 5 times a week.
