I would try it out at the gym first to see if you like it. It has made all of the difference in the world to me as far as my hockey goes. My cardio just keeps getting better week by week.

As far as buying a bike for the house, im not sure I would. I find taking it in a class enviroment helps me push myself harder. I have showed up and used the spin bikes when classes arent going on but I find myself shortening my climbs and such. Make sure you get the instructor to give you a hand with setting up the bike the first time also.

So taking it in class first? i can do that, i have a gym membership.

what specifically did it help you with hockey? Cardio?

Do you feel more energized? feel like you can go end to end 2-3 times? Feel like after a rush you can backcheck (inside joke for beer leaguers)

I find if I do a leg workout, riding the bike for even 15 minutes after leaves me less tired/sore the next day. It also helps get my legs ready before a game. If I ride the bike for 5 minutes on, stretch, then another 5 minutes 90 minutes to an hour before a game I find I have more stamina going into the third.

Haha, im a beer leaguer too. You pretty much hit on the head though. With me its not so much being able to go end to end more on a shift but its the 3rd period where im really feeling good. I have been focusing more and more on pushing myself the last 15 minutes of spin class.

I would recommend if you can investing in a real outdoor bike. During the winter months staying in any kinda of shape using the trainer is a real exercise in commitment. Even if its 40 out the stimulation of the senses, changing terrain, and fresh air are enough to keep one motivated and fit. Everyone I know who bought a stationary even the most expensive with all the bells and whistles have very expensive clothes hangers for machines

So true. A trainer is way cheaper than a full stationary bike and allows you to keep the normal riding position of your real bike indoors but riding a trainer is deadly boring. One hour feels like three.Get outside and find a decent climb and repeat it. You will have no choice to keep pushing since you will stop or roll backwards if you slack too much. Plus, the scenery changes.
