What Would You Recommend?

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm looking for a new stick.

Yes, there are a ton of these posts, but I'm going to be pretty specific in what I'm looking for.

1) I currently have a One95, 102-flex, PM9 (Malkin) curve, 5 lie. I'm liking it, but it took me quite some time to get used to and my accuracy isn't what it used to be, but I can stickhandle way better than I could with other previous sticks.

2) I just recently sold a X:60 shaft, 87-flex, P92 (Backstrom/Sakic clone) curve, 6 lie. I didn't mind the shaft, and I was quite accurate with it, but I think the flex was too low for me and I do prefer the shape of the One95.

3) My favourite stick of all time was the original Easton Stealth, 100-flex, X:60 blade: Sakic curve, 6-lie. Very sad when those broke.

4) My playing style is definitely that of a shooter. With the old Stealth, I seemed to score a lot of goals just walking in the zone and shooting past/through the D. With the One95, I don't hit the net as much from further back, but I'm able to get in closer and can do some damage there. I skate relatively low, and I'm finding I like the lower lie on my One95.

5) I definitely like a lighter stick. It's just my preference.

So, I like both types of curves, the Malkin and the Sakic. Is there another type of curve anyone would recommend that's in-between or suited to my style?

I'm thinking I prefer the lower lie. I don't cut my sticks at all, nor do I add a plug, so I pretty much use the stated lie.

What kinds of sticks play similar to the original Stealth?

Should I go with another X:60 shaft in the 102-flex? Would I be better off with the OPS? I see they have a Backstrom (Sakic clone) in the 5 lie...

I was thinking a two-piece, just so I can change blades as necessary. Is the AK 27 (mid kick) something I should look at, or would I be better off with a Dolomite (low kick)?

In other words, I have no freaking idea, if that isn't obvious, and I like to try new things. Not a huge gear whore, but I definitely like experimenting with my sticks...

I tend to prefer the higher end sticks, mainly because they're lighter. Cost is somewhat of a concern, as I don't particularly want to spend $300 on an S19, but $150 - $200 would be about the sweet spot.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

Okay. I've got a One95, though, and I haven't liked it as much as my original Stealth. To be fair, the blade/lie are different, so that probably accounts for most of the differences.

However, is there anything else out there I should give a shot?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. Once you stated you liked the lie of the One95, then you state that you do not.

Are you sure this is not all mental? The One95 is a shooters stick and really has a nice kick. I'm a big fan of the old Stealths too, but not sure how they kick better than the One95.

I'm a P92/Sakic/P14 guy, but have been playing with the Warrior Dolomite DD OPS with Lidstrom pattern exclusively the last 2 or 3 weeks. Took me maybe 5 minutes of shooting to get used to the pattern. Great for slappers and snapshots too

Going by your points:

1. You "like" the one95 but not as accurate as you like. Given your curve preference of the sakic, that's not surprising.

2. you prefer the shape of the one95, to the X60

3. Original Stealth no longer available, Sakic is a 5.5 lie, not 6. Flex profile of the original stealth is more similar to the Supreme than the Vapor

4. Accuracy problems could be attributed to the lie/curve change with the One95 or it could just be you. No mention of being able to do it with other sticks.

5. Either the One95 or X60 is very light. Hell, all of the top end sticks are light.

Considering the information that you have given us, the only other thing you could do is try and score an original Sakic Stealth.

Yeah, I realize I'm being specific, but not really picky. As it's hard to get an original Sakic stealth, I figured somebody out there would have had the same issue as me (wanting one stick, but finding something else similar).

Ended up buying a Dolomite HD (Draper?) Sakic clone in a lie 4 on a whim. Haven't tried a Warrior before, so thought what the hell, and the price was decent.

It was pretty close to the lie of my One95, so thought it might give me the best of both worlds. Haven't had a lot of time to decide whether it's the one for me, but I didn't mind it. Stickhandling was off a bit, but my shots were pretty good. Pretty much what I expected.

But, I'm in the playoffs in my league, now, so I'm sticking with the One95 because I've become used to it and don't want to throw anything off :).

I suppose it's just a matter of getting used to whatever I'm using.

Thanks though.

S19, sick ass stick.. best ive ever used. Grip Version.

As far as one pieces go, (unlike other parts of your equipment) a good rule to follow is to always go with the top end model. Go Large or Go Home. Otherwise its not worth it. a "non-top-end-one-piece just doenst perform well. if you dont wanna spend the big dollars, i'd go for a either a two-piece or the top-end-one-piece version of 2 years ago. thats much better than a newly released $150-200 one piece. ...

Also, you dont need to pay retail and spend $300 on it. i got mine on ebay brand spanking new for 240 total. (taxes + shipping included) ..and that was only a few months after release. u just gonna spend time shopping. use sites like eBay, kijiji, craigslist...google's product search..etc...

Reebok 10k, S19, Vapor X60..Top warriors....anything will do.

Yeah, I tend to go high end. I've bought price point sticks before, and while they're okay, I much prefer the higher end sticks.

I'm looking for a decent price on a S19. Next time I'm in the 'States I might just pick one up as the exchange is awesome now, and they're $70 less down there.

As far as getting those Stealths, as long as they were the non-grip original version, I might be interested, but I think that'd just be more of a hassle than it's worth.

Have you looked into a new Easton ST? I have one with the Sakic blade on it. I like it and bought the 09 version of the Easton ST new for $115 and cant seem to tell the diff between the 2010 and 09.

No, but I guess that's the thing. So many different sticks to try. Had a few games lately and don't mind the Dolo HD I bought, but I'm still getting used to the Sakic curve again. My shots are ridiculous, but my accuracy is way off from where it used to be. I've hit about six or seven posts in two games. :(
