I've heard of them. I play football against them every year. Its kinda out in the middle of nowhere in PA in Kingston PA. I would go ahead and make a visit before you even think about going there. I for one dont partiularly like much about it. Then again, I go to a nice boarding school in NJ, so my point of view might be a bit distorted. I would say definitely visit any school before you think about going.

Are you going as a PG? Were you recruited to play for them? If your not going as a PG you are not gonna have much of a chance to advance on your team. For example: You go in as a sophomore and you just make the varsity team. You are prolly gonna be stuck on 3rd or 4th line every year. Most kids who are PGs are recruited and will fill the open spots. So these kids will come in and take most of the ice time.

What if you go and you dont make the team? I got expelled from my old school last year a week before hockey started. It stunk because I pretty much missed a whole year in hockey. Im 17 now and im still stuck in the south. The hockey isnt bad but there is little exposure here.

You have some time and live in Canada. Check out Jr hockey up there. This is my last year of youth hockey so I HAVE to make Jr next year. I went up to Canada this summer for some tryouts to see what its like up there. Ive got a decent shot for next year.

A friend of my son played there from his sophomore through his senior years...he liked the level of hockey, and had pretty pushy hockey parents who really liked the program....played teams all over the Eastern US...it's a pretty dedicated hockey program.

PG = post-graduate.

Prep school hockey in PA is probably not as competitive as in the New England states, where some of the top prep school hockey programs are. I don't know anything about Wyoming Seminary's boys team. I do know about their girls team because my daughter is 16 and played prep school hockey for a couple of years. Their girls' team was not highly competitive; in fact they got routinely whipped by my daughter's old club team from Hershey, PA.

The teams in the NE PA Scholastic Hockey League are mostly public schools with a few prep schools: Pittston Area, Wyoming Seminary, St Gregory's, Crestwood, Wyoming Area, Pocono Mountain, Tunkhannock, Paupack, Abington, Wilkes Barre Area, Scranton Prep, Valley West.

Here is a good resource on prep school hockey:

You should for sure try to play prep in New England. Even if its D II prep its still good hockey. There are ALOT of school in new england so do some research, make some phone calls and figure out if this is what you want. Some schools are very hard acedemicaly. WHile others are more like reformatories for rich kids whose parrents are trying to get them into Ivy League schools. My school was the latter and it was very strict. Which sucked because if you hated someone you could get someone expelled pretty easy.

A lot of my friends went up to Mass./RI/ and Connecticut to play hockey. Sure there is a lot of hockey around my area, but that will be your best bet.

its good hockey, but NE prep is better. I know that wyoming played shattucks last year, but they're schedule for the most part isn't spectactular. Also another thing to consider is how much money they're throwing at you....

yglod, why would you think you could have played d1? Ur right tho d3 is more prep, and d1 is mostly jr. a.... But you can easily play d1 from prep so many kids do it...

i never said i could play d1. the nescac is the only prep route in d3 now. juniors are everywhere in d3 and in d1, a handful of guys make it from prep to d1 and they are the top 10 scorers in the league

Nah, don't look at it that way. If the player is good enough and the D1 school wants to see them play in a Jr setting then the D1 school will set up a Jr team to take the player in after his Sr season at the prep school. Sometimes the D1 school is all set. They'll take the prep player right out of school. No route is going to give one an advantage.
