Textbook Plays

Recommended Posts

Sorry if there's a similar topic (I couldn't find one), I was thinking it would be nice if there was a compilation of really typical "good/bad plays" in the NHL or anywhere.

Would be better if it in in the pro level though...

Not those "wow that was AMAZING!!" type of plays, but those more subtle and solid ones that could make the Hockey Textbook (if there was any lol) .

This was recently posted in the HOLY CRAP DID YOU SEE THAT GOAL thread, and although I wasn't totally impressed by Crosby himself, I thought it was a really nice, typical way to use the back of the net to get a free man in front.

(Or, in the other perspective, a bad way to change your man in front of net, ideally the center should have covered I think)

I wouldn't exactly call that a play, I would call that hockey sense. Keep your feet moving and get to the open areas on the ice. Malone was covered tight at the top of the crease, so he moved back to the slot which was vacant because everyone was drooling over Cindy battling for the puck behind the net...

So what you're saying is, it was a good play by Malone?

A "textbook play" Would be: X player goes here...Y player goes here...puck movement documented then a shot on goal.

Unless they documented/planned all that spinning and and turning by Crosby...that isn't a "textbook play" that is, in fact...anything but textbook. That is hockey sense, hustle and determination. Malone stays to a plan in that he gets himself to an open spot to take a pass and do somethgin good with it.

Honestly...since most good plays end in goals....we'll leave those for the "OMG...Goal" thread.
