skate guards

Blocked a shot last week and broke my first metatarsal in my foot. Got caught between blocking shot and taking away the pass and had my foot turned the wrong way. Looks like 4-6 weeks if no surgery. I am looking for advice on some skate guards to prevent this from happening again. I have been doing some web research and would like some real world advice. Anybody have this injury and what if any guards did you use after coming back? I guess luck ran out after 15 years of blocking shots. Appreciate any advice and comments. Don't want to go though this again. Thanks.

Just came across some of these exact ones at my LHS. how much are these actually worth retail? it seems my lhs might have marked them up
