Going to irvine, CA this July. I was thinking about bringing my gear, but wanted to find out if there are any rinks near the city that offer shinny during the summer. Also interested in finding some local hockey shops in the area.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Yes Hockey Monkey and Hockey Giant are there. Monkey is in Santa Ana and Hockey Giant is in Anaheim. Hockey Monkey is a little bit weird to find so study a map before you go!!!

The prices do differ to online because you have local sales tax to consider (10%)

As for rinks, the best would be Anaheim Ice, the ducks practice facility. Relatively easy to find off the 5 freeway - http://www.anaheimice.com/. They do run pickup, I would say contact the guys at socal ice hockey (http://www.socalicehockey.com/), nice bunch of guys, mid level for the most part.

other than that there is....

KHS - http://www.khsice.com/khs/Default.aspx

Westminster ice - http://www.westminstericerink.com/

Ice Town Riverside - http://www.icetown.com/

Toyota Sports Center (kings practice facility) - http://www.toyotasportscenter.com/

the above are probably in order of distance/ ease of journey.

Thanks for all the links! Although I won't have a chance yet to check them out at the moment, I can't wait to see what they offer. You wouldn't know if they run pick up games in the summer by any chance, would you?

Either way, I'll find out, but good to know the rinks, as when i search up arenamaps.com for cali, it shows roller hockey mostly (i think...:S)

I KNOW Anaheim Ice and Westminster run several pickup times during the course of the week.

http://socalicehockey.com/ - These guys also run pick-ups a few times a week. They guarantee 2 goalies and have two generally equally skilled lines per team. They are pretty well run.

thanks.

What are the best days and times to go? and what is the usual amount of guys that show up on that given day?

BTW, damn that is some expensive prices for shinny

Any of them, for that. But also check out anaheimice.com and westminstericerink.com for their schedules. They are a bit cheaper. I do not know how many usually go or their skill levels.

I swung by hockeymonkey's retail store last week. Their prices were pretty much consistent with their online prices, but their clearance rack stuff was a steal. I wasn't really impressed with their selection of Reebok/CCM stuff though, which disappointed me because I wanted Reebok elbows.

Just got back from hockeymonkey and was pretty disappointed. They didnt have any clearance hockey items at all.
