Press release concerning Cascade M11 concussion claims

Recommended Posts

I've also heard a couple doctors say that a mouthpiece won't prevent a concussion. I think it's important to realize that no one piece of gear is going to prevent a concussion, but there are certainly ways to reduce the possibility. Foremost would be having referees actually enforce the head contact rules on the books and/or making those penalties more severe. Without a change in the attitude of hockey players, you will never see concussions become as rare as they should be.

Couldn't agree more. Irresponsibility and neglect are the the most common causes of injuries. The truth remains that the brain is one of the most complex organs in the human body, and no one helmet will be able to solve all issues. Head injuries from cycling, auto racing, hockey, etc. prove that technology can only hope to continue to reduce injuries...but never prevent. With that said, I hope that helmet manufacturers continue to pursue better head protection. All of them are doing a great job and deserve a ton of kudos for their hard efforts.

I had 6 concussions over 3 seasons with a Bauer helmet. I switched to cascade this year, took a couple bad hits from behind, in which my head hit the boards HARD, and other hits in which i hit the ice HARD with my head and i did not receive any concussion symptoms. I'm not saying it prevents concussions by any means, i am just stating what my experiences with the helmet have been and how i truly do believe in the technology.

Can I ask what model Bauer helmet? Epp or vn?

I remember hearing once that they wouldn't submit their helmet to the University of Pittsburgh concussion test, at that point I never showed anyone that helmet.

Accussing Bauer of objecting to these ads because the helmet is successful ignores the obvious, Bauer have been called out directly in the ad campaign! No one, especially one of the big boys, in any business will take that crap laying down!

Congrats to Casacade for upping the ante, whether they really have a better product or not, we no doubt will see more RD going into helmets all around.
