Warrior Kovalchuck Curve

Recommended Posts

I searched the forum and couldn't find anything relevant to what I wanted to ask so her it goes:

Who uses the Kovalchuck curve from Warrior and how does it shoot? Is it a mid or toe curve in your opinion? Also, how does the lie compare to easton? I like more of a 5 easton lie and is the 4 lie in Warrior comparable? Also, what kind of shots benefit from the curve and which are hampered?

Thank You :D

are you talking retail curve or pro stock?

Because the retail curve is a mid and aside from the lie being a little flatter which is good if you like to skate with the puck away from your body, it is a lot like the newer p 88 kane curves I have seen

It's a midcurve, rounded toe and closed. It appears to be a little shorter of a blade as well (by half an inch or so)

Lie is 5 I'm 5'11'' and I cut the shaft about an inch and I'm getting even wear but I know its PP.

Also, I believe the Kovalchuck is the same blade as the Robitaille, not sure what's going on there lol

It WAS the same. Originally the Robitaille was a much more moderate, smoother curve kind of like a slightly milder sakic/draper in that the curve wasn't quite as deep and it was less open (listed as a 3/8" curve vs draper's 1/2"). I really liked that pattern, but they killed it off with the new kovalchuk replacement being a deep mid "kink" rather than a smooth gradual curve like I prefer.

The new kovalchuk is also a touch longer then the first kovalchuk/ robitaille pattern i noticed yesturday when buying a new blade. It seems a touch deeper curve wise almost as big as the old smyth it seemed to me in the store  .

isnt the new Kovalchuk suppose to take over the Smyth? its just more a kinked mid than a toe though, not sure if thats true i think someone here mentioned that though.

It is straight mid like the p88.

it differs from the p88 in that the kovalchuk is completely closed whereas the p88 is still slightly open.

also the kovalchuk is a lower lie comparable to a pm9 or zetterberg, similar but still significantly different enough from the p88.

Side by side the two were identical. I did not check the lie, because I knew it was not for me. The toe is different too if I remember correctly. More of a square toe on the Kovalchuk. It was weird because the new P88's seem to be closed as well.

Last Kovalchuk I had (HD series) was a mid kink. Curve was about the same as a P88 Lindros on a One95 depth wise. Only difference was that the P88 is a smooth curve, slightly open and starts much closer to the heel (deepest in the middle) whereas the Kovalchuk is fairly straight up until just before the mid point and then it just sort of veers or kinks into the curve. You ended up with a flat spot towards the heel on the backhand. Also, the middle of the blade was neutral, but the toe of the Kovalchuk was closed ever so slightly. Kind of a roudned square toe where the bottom was longer than the top, almost like a Coffey. Last DD blade I saw didn't look any different to me, although Warrior oddly has labeled it as a Heel curve on the hossel right underneath the name.
